Phil-McRackin Along_the_Wire I watched this last night. Agree, some effective moments and nice low key period recreation. Worth watching.
BlainSA Apparently Barry’s character is based on an actual guy who was a neo Nazi that read the Koran to better insult Muslims then accidentally converted himself.
Homegrove Room 237. I now feel better about how much I like to talk about movies. I’m nowhere near as bad as the people in the documentary.
Dubman Highway to the danger zone…Top Gun. A multi layered cheese & ham sandwich. Not bad 7 high fives/10
Homegrove Escape from New York. Another first one for me because of the podcast. Really well done considering how little money Carpenter had, but not in a hurry to watch it again. Would have probably loved it it I’d seen it as a kid.
gcw Dune (2021) Not sure what to make of this. I enjoyed Blade Runner 2049 and clearly this has similarities. The cinematography and ‘feel’ was great but it was overly long and I had trouble following the story a bit. I also thought the fight scenes were quite poor. Saying that, I may dig it out again in a few months for another go.
Along_the_Wire gcw I think it’s more comparable to the shit Star Wars prequels. Absolute shite and not remotely comparable to either Bladerunner film other than being in the same genre.
BlainSA BR2049 is miles ahead of Dune. I’ve had no inclination whatsoever to watch Dune again bar maybe filling in the gaps when I fell asleep. BR2049 is an easy choice to watch again. Fantastic film.
rhouses Went all in on dune and loved it. Villenueve did the book justice. Things will be quite tricky for the second part, with the underground desert life, the wars, and worm riding. Can’t wait to see the big ending too. Same genre at the surface, but it’s apple and oranges if you compare it to the blade runner movies. Both the worlds are vastly different.
Cankles-McJeggings Haha I love that rhouses and hg love everything everyone else thinks is shite 😂 Just add Edwand into the mix and you have the holy trinity.
Homegrove Cankles-McJeggings I’m not actually sure if I actually liked Dune, or was just desperate to like it because I love the book and Villeneuve.
rhouses Homegrove Felt the same tbf. The section with Paul and his mother stuck in the desert was a bit too tedious. But otherwise, no complaints as an adaptation.
Cankles-McJeggings I watched it under duress. I filed it with Prometheus. ie - never watch again and be sad about the minutes I afforded it.
gcw To clarify, when I said it had similarities with Blade Runner 2049 I only really meant the cinematography, music etc. The stories are miles apart.
Mad_Cyril Watched St Maude the other night. Nice tense noir. Really enjoyed. Thought everyone kneeling as she flambéd herself at the end spoiled it slightly, would be a better fillum without those 5 seconds or so. 4 melters / 5
