The Godfather. I don’t know why I waited almost 30 years to rewatch it. I had only seen it once with my friend with whom we went through most classics in our teens. This, Blade Runner and Apocalypse. Now! Most of those others I’ve since seen many times, but not this or Godfather Part II since then. That’s on the program next weekend.

Millsy yeah, I was blown away by Pacino on this, such great subtle menace. Just 20 years later he couldn’t even spell subtle if asked (though it works on Heat where he’s supposed to be on coke the whole time). The restaurant scene is amazing. His face after he comes out from the toilet with the gun. Man that’s acting.

Watched copland for the first time. As shit as predicted but Stallone was surprisingly good as the dopey sheriff.

Miami Vice (2006). Not better than I remembered. Not seen Black Hat, so worst Michael Mann-movie I have seen. Some great shots, and Mann can do action scenes really well (the trailer park-scene was fucking great), but christ Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx were both bad. And I think that they can act when they want to, or with another director. Colin Farrell’s moustache and mullet-combo was glorious though, and Gong Li was very beautiful.

Project Power - he’s shit in it
Miami Vice - he’s shit in it
Django Unchained - good film with some great performances. His is at the bottom somewhere.

The Hunt - Scandinavian fella gets accused of noncing. Not guilty but local community makes him a pariah. Impacts on family & friends etc, etc…

Slightly interesting ending, but widely open to viewer interpretation.

3 exposed poles / 5, was 2.5 but gets extra points for clocking in around the 90 min mark

Son of Rambow. Another one watched with the boy. Nice coming of age comedy from 2007 but set in the 80s. Directed by Garth Jennings who had mainly done music videos before this ..Blur, Supsrgrass, Fatboy Slim. Appearance by Dr Buckles .

Fancied a classic. It’s basically perfect. The only thing that irks is knowing it was all filmed on the one lot, and wishing it had been given a bigger budget for a more expansive vibe.

That was actually a major grate for me that change. Preferred it as fucker.

Homegrove Father, although that cut has the benefit of the recomped dove shot at the end, so it actually looks like it’s part of the film, rather than stock footage of a small industrial estate somewhere just outside of Woking, and no tagged on Shinning footage which again jars a bit with the rest of the film.
