RichM I didn’t think there was an actual link between those 2 films. Obviously same director, leading actor and topic

you weren’t by any chance a detective on the original Stephen Lawrence case were you mate?

Is Cronenberg’s Spider worth the time?

The Meg 2

Providing a numerical rating on this movie proved to be quite difficult. You know the background already- sharks eats shit, Chinese production so CGI is slightly different to what you’d usually get; script will be non-existent as will any chemistry between the actors etc. However, it hits my rotten tomato sweet spot of shit critic rating (29%) and high audience rating (73%- I’d ideally want >85%). However there are some genuinely amusing scenes- in places CGI has been abandoned for paper mache ‘mouth cam’ with treadmill feeding the extras into the shark (unintentionally funny) and some decent Statham kills- so I’m going to give this a 7/10 having gone in with terrible expectations.

If youre half way through, and they’re walking along a ‘seabed garden’ and you want to quit dont give up at this point….

    Wander (2020)

An absolute mess of a film, one of the worst I’ve seen in a long time. I’m surprised Tommy Lee Jones agreed to star in it.

Former cop who is now a conspiracy theorist agrees to investigate a death in a town in the middle of nowhere, which he thinks is linked to the death of his daughter a few years prior.

Avoid at all costs IMO, unless you really want to waste 90 minutes of your life.

Wasily I avoid all Jason Statham’s films like the plague.

Dan has Ed spoiled them for you?

Me and the Stath, brothers from another mother!

Is Stathy aware he has a such a convincing doppelgänger just wandering around the place getting instantly mistaken for him? If anything you could get some doubles/stunt work out of it. Use your gifts imo

Don’t think he is Millsy, suspect we’d get on like a house on fire.

He wouldn’t be able to touch me bants wise though, but then not many can.

seanc80 lol. Ironically Ed looks like the Stath after being trapped in a house fire.

Mixed feedback from The Stathmeister there.

Homegrove Was having a chat with a mate the other day about the best alien movie in the franchise and he swears by Alien 3 directors cut on Blue Ray, which is an odd call in my opinion but tbf haven’t seen the DC or the BR. Any thoughts on that one?

Wasily oh it’s a completely different movie. Though not technically a director’s cut, as Fincher had almost nothing to do with it. It’s called an Assembly Cut, and it apparently resembles Fincher’s original vision for the movie, before the studio wanted the movie to be shorter. I’m a bit fuzzy on that partical part of the Alien-lore, but it does explain why the xenomorph got loose again after they managed to capture it. Still not a great one, but maybe a good one when compared to the theatrical cut. I’ve naturally got the Blu Ray box-set which has alternative cuts to all 4 movies. 😀

As for the best Alien movie my opinion differs between the first and Aliens depending when you ask me. Today it’s Alien.

Homegrove Agree on that. Depends on my ADHD level, but Aliens is definitely the most easily accessible.

The best Alien is the first one - how can that be up for discussion. I used to love Aliens too, but it looks a little silly and stereotypical now

Along_the_Wire Not as bad as Predator 2 which is comical.

Aliens in it’s day was the nuts.

Always thought Statham was a bit of a icon for the gay community.

I’ve always thought Prometheus promised so much, but was a glorious opportunity missed by Ridley Scott. Cinematically brilliant, big budget, then somebody hit the Hollywood button and it went all Star Trek.

Dan Nick Sneddon and I Am Dusted are known apologists for that movie. I enjoy it for the visuals.

Bullet Train should have been direkt in meiner Straße as they say; I like Brad Pitt, I like trains, I like films where the protagonists are trapped or confined in some way and I like Japan.

                    Fucking hated it.

                    Infinity Pool
Another bonkers film just like Midsommar but not as good. 6.5/10

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

A load of old tripe. Thought Harrison was better than this. Although the facial technology was well done, the other CGI was very poor

gcw I’d like to watch it but the one before it was utter dog shit. He looked like relic in that film ffs.

                      Talk to Me (2023)

Much hyped Aussie supernatural teen horror from a couple of YouTubers. First half is decent, some good moments. Second half is poor and suffers from a lack of coherent narrative.

                      6/10

Thought the mixed sequencing worked really well. Loved the way it was shot too.

Felt the ending was telegraphed a little bit early, but only a minor complaint and not so bad as to ruin the film.

                      7/10
