Anora (2024) 8/10
‘Exotic Dancer’ marries young Russian twat with rich parents. Parents not happy and try to annul the marriage.
Lot of comparisons to Pretty Woman in the media for this movie. IMO it has very little in common bar the occupation of the protagonist. It’s well acted though and parts of it are hilarious, however with an underlying subtext of being trapped, emotionally, physically or financially. Very different to anything I’ve seen recently (so was Substance) but this decent and some very under-rated acting especially from Yura Borisov who I think would get a nod from me for best supporting actor.
Really enjoyed a first rewatch of The Prestige in a long time. Scarlett Johansson’s attempt at a British accent is pretty bad though. Somehow never noticed that before.
IndustryStandard Fuck me, I hope you didn’t watch that! It’s an abomination of a film - should’ve sued over it
Challengers - really enjoyed this. Was surprised at the mad pop score being Trent Reznor lol. 8 smashed rackets / 10
Transformers One - decent. Hopefully they get to do another one as they obviously cared about the franchise. No Megan Fox arse to be seen. 7.5 / 10
Snr loved Anora.
Cheers!
It’s What’s Inside (2024)
hahaha this was class
8/10
Not hearing great things about Gladiator 2. “Putting the ‘meh’ in Mezcal etc.”
Ridley’s best in years but not as good as the first / Mezcal not as good as Crowe is what I’m hearing - hardly surprising. Denzel meant to be brilliant.
It’ll be getting the ole s to the werve from me that is for sure.
If the second one is worse than the first, it must be an absolute fucking stinker.
If anyone would like an interesting take on this film, I can highly recommend ‘Glad he ate her.’
Along_the_Wire I enjoyed the first one, rewatched it last week. The first half is great.
Macbeth (2015). From the top of my shame-pile, movies I’ve bought and never watched. Well I did today. One of the most amazing movies visually I have EVER seen, but I got to tell you as someone who is not used to Shakespeare I was very happy this had Finnish subtitles.
Marion Cotillard in this is amazing.
