Homegrove just watched Donnie Darko on DVD for the first time since pretty much the time it came out. It looked absolutely awful, but still think it’s a good film.

The Social Network (2010). After breakfast Sunday-movie today. A perfect film, that gets better with every rewatch because you can just marvel at the masterful filmmaking at display, and really get into details when you know the story already.

Biutiful (2010)

Alejandro González Iñárritu. Javier Bardem. Great director, great actor. It’s about a guy with no money, a crazy ex, and two nice kids, just trying to get by in the slums of Barcelona. It features a great cameo by King of Snake. You should watch it.

9/10

    Gladiator 2 (2024)
Went with Mrs Archimedes and watched this in iSense yesterday. It felt like it could have been longer to develop some of the characters a bit more. I would have liked a bit more about the insane twins and I’m still not sure what Denzil’s background was, though that may be me missing stuff from the first one. All in all a decent film. Really enjoyed it.

    7.5 Devil’s breath’s out of 10

Kneecap. Very funny semi fictional biopic of the Irish rap group. Michael Fassbender is excellent and gives it some gravitas and the Trainspotting vibes are obvious. The ‘ amusing bit where they take drugs’ is pretty well worn by now but they are numerous and hilarious here.

rhouses Just watched The Substance. Good fun, if a bit gory. Last 20. mins could of been cut down a bit.

      Paddington in Peru

Comfy recliners, had a nice nap

C_J where are you watching it CJ - can’t find it. Looks right up my strasse

Along_the_Wire I was forced into buying a BluRay off eBay as I’d been keeping an eye out for it for a decade. It’s a very under seen film.

            Mad_Cyril Paddington in Peru

Comfy recliners, had a nice nap

As if you weren’t on the edge of your seat when Hunter chases Paddington and cheering when the Browns arrive just in time to save him.

I tried watching Dogville again as I found it boring the last time I attempted it and gave up after 15 minutes. This time I stuck with it and it’s still shit until about 45mins in, but improves significantly into a wonderful dark story of greed and selfishness in small town USA, a nod to slavery too. Nicole Kidman is excellent in it. The scene is is like a play with a huge stage and the dialogue can be quite clunky as a result, but worth a watch once you get past the early oddness. 8/10

I can’t wait for Titanic 2. When’s that coming out?

I won’t be watching Gladiator II

And the remake of Speak No Evil is absolutely gash as well by the way.

rhouses naaah, good movie, had me locked in and the acting is stellar!

The acting is Stellar? Where you on drugs whilst watching it? It was average at best.

Interesting film about how Gladiator was rescued by William Nicholson’s rewrites. Ironic how he calls out the main issue with the orginal script being the lack of a reason to care about the main protagonist. That’s the problem with the sequel imo.

mono-stereo just some wacky tobaccy. Demi Moore was brilliant, and don’t tell me you didn’t want to punch Dennis Quaid in the face. That shrimp scene lives in my head rent free.

Saltburn: Finally got around to watching this after refusing to illegally download it for a year (for some shitty reason Amazon Prime in India doesn’t have it listed). Had to VPN it up and it felt like a godsend seeing the “Browsing while travelling?” banner finally come up.

It’s like the Talented Mr. Ripley meets the Royal Tennenbaums. I mean, it gets pretty bizarre and out there, but it’s still entertaining and the drama of it all holds you. Barry is very good, but I think that’s mostly because it’s a well written character. Proper slime ball. Not sure if that mini montage at the end with the reveal was needed, felt unnecessary, did less for the story. Good follow up movie for the director after the decent Promising Young Woman. I was hoping for more scary (with all the comparisons with Get Out) and less weird sex stuff, but I guess those were wtf moments that worked.

vinnyt77 First half you’re thinking this guy is a complete weirdo, but not really a psychopath. I wish they left that ambiguous and didn’t do that reveal at the end.

rhouses Correct, but I don’t know why the reference to (WHAT THE FUCK) is particularly relevant.

vinnyt77 the premise is pretty much the same, isn’t it? Am I missing something?

C_J yep, ironically the script in their argument is all over the fucking place. Reading Rhouses’ last 10 comments is the most confusing plot I’ve seen in a while too.

C_J Mono and Rhouses arguing about two different films lol

                          Lol!

                          lol

LT42 I have followed the functionality of this board and replies accurately!

Now I’m reading vinny’s replies over again and wondering if I fucked that up. lol.

mono-stereo sorry my bad, I thought you where saying the acting in gladiator 2 was Stella 😂

Think his name is Paul Mescal Mono.

Kermode couldn’t have been more right about Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point. Awful movie. Holdovers this is not. 2.3 / 10
