Echo Valley (2025) Sydney Sweeney, Julianne Moore, Domhnall Gleason. Written by Brad Ingelsby. Good old-fashioned crime thriller which revolves around a mum and daughter drugs relationship. Simple but effective. Entertainment rather than art. It won’t challenge you but it’s good fun.

whatever it’s a really bad movie, but the last act is really good. Not saying you have to continue with it, but I was so frustrated in the movie theatre watching the last hour “why wasn’t this all like this?”

Days of Heaven (1978). For my shame my first Terrence Malick-film I’ve seen. Set in 1912, over half of it is shot either right after sunrise, or just before sunset (the golden hour), and almost all of it on the wide opens and mountains of Galgary, Canada so it looks amazing. Starring young Brooke Adams, Richard Gere and Sam Shephard with a score by Ennio Morricone almost everything about this film is beautiful. Even the tragedy in the story.

Transactional match-making woman must choose between (cliche alert) private equity unicorn Pedro Pascal or struggling actor Chris Evans. This is described as a romcom, but I found it either romantic nor funny. I have learnt that materialistic New York single woman value income >> height (6′0+) > a full head of hair >> everything else but at the expense of sitting through what felt like a 2 hour episode of Sex and the City. Jaws (1975). 50th anniversary screening in our local multiplex. Finally had my dream of seeing this in a movie theatre fulfilled. It was marvelous.

Along_the_Wire I had to settle with iSense, Turku lacks an IMAX (there’s only one in Finland and it’s in Helsinki). Still, the iSense screen is almost the size of a tennis court so that was alright.

Nebraska (2013)

I was keen to watch another Alexander Payne film as Sideways and The Holdovers are two of my favourites.

This was in a similar vein, focusing on small town America and the relationships between families. I’d love to travel across America and drive through some of these random and forgotten towns.

Good acting from all and some lovely cinematography. The bossy mum was a particular highlight.

gcw not seen Nebraska or The Descendent yet, the latter really seems to split the opinions. The Election is a stone cold classic from him, and obviously Sideways with a bottle or too is always a good time.

American Gangster (2007). The Rewatchables-podcast did this movie this week as their 400th episode, and I hadn’t seen it in well over ten years, so due a rewatch before listening to that. I counted Denzel saying “my man” seven times. Good, if not great movie. Like Ridley Scott doing a Scorcese-movie, just more procedural and less fun.

Went to see Jaws at the IMAX on Sunday, but after little sleep and being very tired after Stage One, I fell asleep for most of it. Gutted. The family loved it.

Enjoyed “the roses”, cumberbitch and olivia coleman are quite the endearing combination and not obnoxious like kathleen turner and michael douglas. Hit a bit close to home though, missus just got a massive promotion and ive completed a year of stay at home dad status. Lol. A solid 8.1

Caught Stealing (2025). Missus and I both actually really enjoyed this. The reviews maybe a bit mixed, but it’s a fun one. Well there’s a lot of horrific stuff in it, but for a Aronofsky-movie it’s definitely a fun one. Zoe Kravitz and Austin Butler sure are two very attractive people.
