The Rip (2026) - didnt think this was too bad to be honest. A 5 or 6 out of 10 for me. An easy way to waste 2 hours on a Sunday evening

Arrow Video 4K Blu ray. Rewatch.
Got to love ugly as hell 1970s New York.

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (2009).
Despite all the talent involved (Tony Scott directing, Denzel, Travolta, Turturro and Gandolphini starring) this is an almost completely useless remake of a perfect classic. If you’re familiar with the original you spent too much time just clocking what they’ve updated in the 35 years between the movies.
Still there are plenty of worse movies than this at what it does, a well done thriller under two hours.
Denzel is really subdued (not a bad thing, it’s good to see him do different), I don’t think he raises his voice once, which is good because Travolta spends most of the runtime being way over the top. James Gandolphini is excellent as the mayor of NY who’s just running the clock to the end of his term so he can get the hell away from the city, for good.

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
Striking another “YOU’VE NEVER SEEN THAT?!” movie from my watchlist. I can guess why with this one, I didn’t see this as a child, and after that it was “who wants to watch a movie made for kids?” probably.

If you’re wondering how it works in 2026 as a first watch when you are 47 I can say that REALLY well. Loved it.

Got the 30th anniversary Blu ray used for 5 € some time ago, it took me awhile to get to it. Now that I’m staycationing at home during my winter holiday decided that 9 AM on a Wednesday is the time to finally watch it.

Lincoln (2012)
This film suffers from over writing (way too many grand speeches), and it’s close to too sentimental at times, but the voting-scene is incredible. Everyone with some knowledge in history knows the outcome, yet it’s absolutely nerve wrecking. Spielberg, my man…
I could have user another 2,5 hours of just James Spader in this too.

I watched ‘Breakdown’ starring Kurt Russell last night. Was on a recommended 90s thrillers list online and I had never heard of it before. It whiled away some time and was ok in parts, but largely hammy as all hell. 5/10
