Wuthering Heights (2026) 5/10
Brooding dark Northern gypsy played by white Australian heartthrob gets spurned by his upper class childhood sweetheart because he’s too ‘ethnically diverse’ but when she then marries a white guy played by a Pakistani actor, he loses his shit and causes trouble.
Had very low expectations of this and so came away thinking I’d escaped lightly. Liked Saltburn but this seemed almost too hard for Fennell to manage as the script was pretty spartan resulting in the whole movie feeling like a music video for a series of Charlie XCX songs- which are the best thing about this movie. For me the most interesting character was Hong Chau’s conflicted maidservant- my wife made what sounded like some astute comments about parallels with her and the Emelia character in Othello.
