28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (2026)
I did not fall madly in love with this the way I did with 28 Years Later last summer, but it sure was a good movie still. Will be interesting to see how I feel about it after a rewatch.
My wife said movie theatres should have seat belts in them for people like me who are really jumpy. The last “infected out of nowhere” made me jump so bad she burst out laughing.

Twelve Monkeys (1995).
Our Sunday-evening movie this weekend was my wife’s choice. An excellent choice.
Some films really stay with you. I hadn’t seen this (I think) since the late 90s and I remembered it almost completely. Very much worth revisiting if you’ve not seen it in awhile. I don’t feel it gets talked about a lot, even in film-circles.

Dan Great movie, but can’t imagine it in proximity to mushrooms. I took a much stronger edible than planned before watching it in imax last year and that was an experience lol.

Dead Poets Society (1989)

I was aware that this is considered to be a very good film and I would agree with that assessment. It reminded me a lot of The Holdovers given the similar set-ups, and the acting, especially from Robin Williams, was very strong. Without posting any spoilers, it was poignant at times.

A strong 9/10 from me

Taxi Driver (1976)
Happy 50th anniversary, this had a nationwide release in the US on this date in 1976.
I’d not watched this in 30+ years, and wow. That was on VHS, I then bought it on DVD (it was a nice release too) that I never watched, then upgraded to the 40th anniversary Blu ray at some point. It’s very nice, but that was years ago too.
I think this is an absolute masterpiece, but to me it’s far from a rewatchable. It’s often so hard to look at, even so much so that even Scorcese has the camera move away from an awkward phone call at one point.

The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981)

I went into this film totally blind, not knowing what the premise was, but for some reason I thought it was a light hearted comedy. It turns out it was a neo-noir movie about a woman having an affair, leading to a murder plot etc.

It wasn’t very good. Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange had zero chemistry despite being apparently passionately in love. I love Nicholson films but this was totally forgettable.

3 out of 10 from me

One Battle After Another (2025)
Finally got the 4K Blu ray this week, so my fourth time watching this, the second for my wife.
I got to tell you, it just gets better every viewing. The last time I watched a film this obsessively it was The Dark Knight Rises and it was because I was massively depressed, and it spoke to me in that hole I was in. This is because it’s just so rewatchable. And GOOD.
