Millsy it does look pretty good still considering the HD master is almost 20 years old. Fincher wants to have nothing to do with it, so I doubt we’ll get a 4K version anytime soon, so it’s good it still looks good in just HD.
Salem’s Lot (1979).
Arrow Video 4K Blu ray.
It has the two part TV movie (with an option to watch it in two parts like it aired in 1979 in the States, or as a three hour movie), and the theatrical cut that was made for international markets. I’ve never seen that before, so chose that as the first version to watch from the new release.
The TV version is at times bit of a chore as a pretty slow 180 minute long commitment, but the theatrical cut at 116 minutes felt too rushed, with obvious gaps in the story. Maybe this is best viewed as it aired, in two parts over two nights.
The picture quality is amazing, you can appreciate that they spent a lot of money for the time on this, despite it being made for TV. The Marsten House interior looks really disgusting in ultra high definition.
