Russell Crowe with a silly accent hunts a woman in his car because she honked at him at the lights in a rude way rather than giving him a “courtesy tap.”

Fast-paced, semi-entertaining, daft; a perfectly fine example of mindless, violent fun.

Summer of 84 (2018, Amazon)

80’s throwback film about a bunch of kids trying to out their neighbour as a serial killer. Vibes of Stranger Things, The Goonies etc.

It drags a bit in the middle before kicking up a gear. Great soundtrack. Recommended.

Synchronic (2019, Amazon)

Two paramedics in New Orleans discover a drug with magical effects. Sounds good, right? Wrong.

Anthony Mackie was good in this but Jamie Dornan wasn’t. Sort of like a buddy movie sci-fi family drama (?) this was a tonally confused load of old shite with a couple of entertaining moments. Felt like a waste of a decent concept.

Volition (2019, Amazon)

Low-budget mid-brow stoner-sci-fi crime-thriller type of thing, again involving drugs with magical effects and some token science references. Basically a guy who can see the future tries to change his fate by travelling into the past.

I really liked this but it won’t be for everyone. It kept me gripped and propelled through the first two thirds and there were some clever little touches and some great moments. Final third let it down a bit.

C_J I would put Tenet up there with the worst films I’ve ever seen. I had two proper goes at it and couldn’t get beyond the halfway mark.

I found the problem was it made no sense e.g. Why aren’t they talking backwards with subtitles/ How can they see if light moves away from their eyes? If blood flow is reversed through their lungs giving them oxygen won’t save them etc.- unlike Interstellar where the premise was feasible. I saw it in the Imax and about 2/3rds of the way through started treating it like a Fantasy genre film instead of Sci-Fi. Then it was mildly watchable, but definitely the least enjoyable iMAX experience I’ve had.

Wasily yeah it made no sense to me either but necessarily for the conceptual reasons you highlights. For me it was more about the way it was put together. The editing. The casting. There was no flow. It was just a series of boring, pointless, disconnected scenes.

Leon…90’s Jean Luc Besson film about a hit man befriended by a 12 year old, whose family has been killed by corrupt police officers. Bordering on suggestion of paedophilia at times, but stays onside…. and is otherwise a touching and quirky watch. Not too sure a director would get away with a film with these undertones these days though. 8/10
