Cheap to make as they usually only have a couple of shooting locations. And they have a dedicated fanbase that will consume virtually anything within the genre. No surprise so many horror flicks get made.

The Conjuring was the best one of recent times for me. The 2nd part wasn’t great but I enjoyed the 1st one.

Also The Ritual was great for about ¾ and then went off the rails and fizzled out with a terrible ending, which seems to be a problem with most modern horrors, they just can’t seem to stick the landing.

Event Horizon is a classic, shat myself watching that back in the day. Same with Salem’s Lot. Creep, the one about the lass stuck in the London underground overnight was pretty good iirc.

LT42 yeah The Ritual is pretty good, however with most adaptations the book is better

i read salem’s lot when i was maybe 16 or 17. had to quit reading before bed, it freaked me right out.

The Shining, despite King’s consternations, is the only example I can think of where I prefer the film. The book is not King’s best but I think Kubrick’s film is a masterpiece.

Yeah, there was an interesting program about it on radio 4 a couple of years back. The witness they interviewed comes across as being a pretty level headed guy:

The show itself is really well done. There’s a part which is generally unnerving when the child starts talking like an old bloke, giving specific information about how “he” died.
