ScottBailey NasserAlazzawi I think because everything is online and available instantaneously now, it would be difficult to play the same tracks in consecutive sets to the same people without becoming boring and predictable. I think that’s probably why you see someone like Diggers rarely playing a track more than twice over the course of his bunker sessions. There are exceptions, but not very many. I think people could still be able to carve out a sound for themselves, but I’ve definitely found over the years that the consistency of quality tunes in a specific genre has reduced drastically. I’d love to be able to stick to just deep prog’ on a weekly basis, but I can’t find enough of it that I like to be able to do so.
IndustryStandard Agree that a DJ who’s been around for 30 years has a myriad of sounds, but here are the main ones from my perspective Renaissance - Fathers of Sound dubs, chunky throbbers…. Twilo - period when he won DJ mag DJ of the year. Percussive, relentless, edgy, suuuuuperb Current “Prime Time” business techno/noisy bangers - he definitely has a mass sound he plays now when doing big gigs and streams. Like that recent benefit stream that sounded like a load of poop. Not my cup of team but may appeal to the sesh-house crew and pay his mortgage so fair play.
SM001 IndustryStandard That benefit stream was border-line offensive. I know he plays that sound at big festivals but the tracks themselves were shite.
Dan IndustryStandard Twilo heavily influenced by Tenaglia. However the first few years they were playing really trancey stuff….rather than the moody tribal bollocks.
IndustryStandard SM001 remember watching that thinking this is how he pays the bills…..fair play to him but utter toss that set.
NasserAlazzawi alistair I’d say the following examples have their sound: Hernan Cattaneo Nick Warren Cristoph - his success has been something we’ve appreciated more because he’s from my hometown. But in a few years he’s become a worldwide hit and his idol Eric Prydz is now working with him. I would never play his new stuff but you know what his sound is going to be like when you go and see him Jeremy Olander Eelke Kleijn Proud this lad is from Newcastle he’s done amazingly well.
ScottBailey I’d say all of those don’t have a sound. For instance, have a listen to Dave Clark over the last 15 years. You know what you’re going to get…
Samalla Mad_Cyril what the hell is bathtub prog..? have a feeling I kinda know… Digweed was amazing during the bunker seshs , during lockdown. Hence, im looking for the remix of be yourself-Celeda.. cos it’s all about the remix.. such an amazing time, for music.. also Bushwacka sets, and All day I dream.. Echoes on a Friday.. totally joyous.. anyhoo. I think recently. It’s the snare.. from lockdown. 🤣🤣🤣 for Diggers..😉
NasserAlazzawi Dave Clarke is such a Love/Hate thing. Loads of my mates are blown away by him and I just find that stuff gives me a headache.
ali-star NasserAlazzawi absolute foolish idiot. Dave Clarke can reduce Digweed to smoking crater any day, in terms of technicality. Digweed is #basicbitch mixer.
Matty SM001 Did you give that Barutana set a listen I recommended or are you still basing your opinion on one poor Balance outing ?
Hursty There is a time and a place for Dave Clarke. Once every 5 years I would say and it’s always an exceptional night!
SM001 Matty No but I haven’t given my opinion on HC off the back of one mix. I was never a huge fan of his to begin with. He’s a good DJ but I don’t like most of the music he plays.
Matty SM001 I might be mistaken but I thought you said that you had based your opinion on his Balance release. Once again ; this set is awesome IMO https://m.soundcloud.com/blenderbelgrade/hernan-cattaneo-b2b-nick-warren-b2b-graziano-raffa-barutana-june-2019 Cattaneo and Warren get going after 80 mins although the Raffa set is as good a warm up as you will hear.
SM001 Matty Nah, I wouldn’t judge someone who’s be DJing for over 20 years on just one mix. 😅 I’ll give this mix a whirl, thanks. FYI I’m not a huge Nick Warren fan either. 😆
