benson I looked at my first ever 4th cat race in 2014 - 52mins at 295W / 325W NP. We were chasing a break down, but failed, finished 11th. Then got 5th, 4th, 4th and was promoted to 3rds

Edit: looked at a later race with no significant breaks and was 245W / 305W NP - pretty big difference not having to chase anything down

In the Alps in France visiting a mate with the missus and took the bike - did Col De Colombière and Mont Saxonnex today - fuck me, it was horrible. Joux Plane tomorrow

Along_the_Wire Which way are you doing Joux Plain? By far the hardest climb I have ever done which I did on the etape in 2016

Sitting at about 270-280W on Rouvy on the turbo and 82kg so feeling hopeful that on saturday I will not be completely embarrassed by my performance.

I got conquered by glandon in 2015. So to go back and do it was quite satisfying.

Trying to persuade the mrs that me disappearing off for 5 days to cycle the alpes by myself is a good thing

Did my first crit yesterday. Spat out the back after 3 laps and lapped by the lead group twice.

Cycling round a windy airfield by yourself is lonely.

Along_the_Wire looking at my power data I should have been able to. What I hadn’t factored in is the loss of power because of concentrating on the wheel in front plus the anaerobic bursts out of corners.

I was too much of a pussy in the pack. Look round and I’m out the back suddenly.

Along_the_Wire I trained for the 312. And that worked. maybe coming out of a 2 week all inclusive holiday into 4 lon g days at work was not the best training.

Gonna focus on intervals and sprints for the next couple months. Maybe see about dong so early season stuff next year. A definite eye opener into how difficult even cat 4 stuff is

benson Sprints, VO2 max and increased your Sweetspot intervals in length. Proper road races are better fun and have less full gas out of corner moments

I was 2nd cat for three years in my mid to late 40s. I’m not sure I ever enjoyed it.

The Tour looks like its going to be a barnstormer. I can’t fucking wait. Both Visma and UAE look really stong.

LT42 only issue I have is the first ten days are a bit dull.

I’m off to Geneva tomorrow and cycling through the Alps to Nice. Barely any flat. I have no idea what I was thinking. To make matters worse my bike cost £1,300 for its service.l
