Dubman went once on the 380 and it was the smoothest flight I’ve ever been on and that includes flying through some nasty looking storms on the way into Bangkok.

Yeah it is smooth however I’d did have a bumpy approach into Gatwick a few years ago due to bad weather. It’s so big with those huge wings but as yet I’ve never been on the top deck.

Dubman Flew in business on Emirates on an A380, and was hands down my favourite flight. Possibly helped that I was headed off on a bucket list trip to see the great wildebeest migration in the Masai Mara, but the flight was amazing. Spent about half of it in the bar at the back of the top deck. Real shame the economics of them don’t stack up as well as they used to, as the A380 is my favourite plane on which to fly long haul…

Always use Emirates when I fly to India each year. Brilliant service on board, great food & entertainment. Only problem these days is I detest Dubai airport.
It is a shame about the 380. I can’t see it being in the air in 10 years time unless it’s for cargo purposes

I remember seeing one for the first time in Toulouse. I’d flown there in tiny turbo-prop or learjet and seeing the a380 for the first time I was open mouthed. Much prefer it to the 747 but I get that the 747 was a massive leap forward and the plane of it’s era.

Also ridiculously quiet. And the first time I flew in one I wondered if it was ever going to take off. Lovely plane.

Ha. If only you knew the truth. No toilet on board. 4.5 hours max flight time. Too nearly 30 hours to get back from Brunei in one of those things. It really is not glamorous at all. It was more the size of the a380 compared to what I was in.

NasserAlazzawi No toilets. They are tiny. There is a toilet but it it strictly emergency use only. Piss into a bag situation. I am not joking. There is not a lot of room. This is the interior and we too about 4 times that amout of medical kit including a ventilator.

I genuinely don’t have a clue what airplane I am flying on when I’m booking flights or taking flights. To me it’s something that gets me from a to b, if it decent then happy days, if it’s not decent, I probably was looking for a cheaper ticket anyway.

RichM The plane is actually pretty important from a noise and set-up point of view. You can easily get some right shockers - it’ll certainly dictate whether I fly American or BA for example.

Along_the_Wire Same same. Much pickier about what I’ll fly on than I used to be. Boeing’s recent issues with the 737MAX mean I just won’t fly on it for the foreseeable. None of my preferred airlines are flying it on routes I’d be likely to take, which is all good, and it’s YET another reason not to go near Ryanair with a stinky bargepole.

I’m not a big fan of the current generation of 777s. Just noisy and uncomfortable IMO. If there’s a carrier on the same route that flies an A380, A350, A330, or a 787, I’ll always pick them if there’s not a huge price premium.

Used to love the 747 - real game changer in international / long-haul travel. Was getting a bit long in the tooth, and I’d hoped the 747-8 would be a big step forward. It wasn’t. Same hot, loud, uncomfortable mess as the 747-400.

Along_the_Wire for me leg room important for long haul, as I genuinely stick my headphones in and listen to music for most of it, so not fussed about noise and any other comforts.

Would stay clear of AA as we had a shocker on the way back from Vegas a few years back. Thought we were on BA but it was an AA plane. Me and the missus had 5% battery each, no place to charge phones and no in seat entertainment. That was a long and painful flight!

I should prob look into it more as we fly to SA most years which is overnight, so a better plane would help the journey.

I like what BA have down with their re-furbished 777s and American have massively upped their game after being absolutely dreadful. I always fly One World where I can for miles and tier points - thank fuck BA and American have upped their game heading west - Qatar and Malaysia heading east.

Along_the_Wire Yeah, AA are my best of a bad bunch of the US carriers. Used to be Delta, but they’ve dropped off in recent years, and the less said about United the better.

I’m fortunate that Virgin fly to the vast majority of US cities I tend to need to visit for work or fun, and I’ll always fly with them ahead of BA and AA…

I take it you don’t fly economy then, as they’ve gone 10-abreast at the back on a lot of the old 777s.
