My wife just got back from Manhattan as she had to see the eye doctor over there. First time either of us have been over there since Covid. We live on the other side of the Hudson river in Hoboken.

As soon as she got in she ran in the shower in tears. Says it’s horrendous over there. Homeless, drug addicts, mentally handicapped people everywhere. Shops boarded up, no one around, no tourists, office workers…..horrible. She had to go to Tribeca and Bryant Park areas so not traditionally shitty areas. Her eye doctor said it was worse a few months back and will take years to come back from this.

Can see this happening to a lot of major US cities if not careful.

Same in San Francisco. A bit better now as more people are out and about. When this all kicked on in March, it was wild. The Tenderloin was wild enough already, and the City has serious problems with homelessness and mental illness/substance use. But a few months back, all one saw on the street were the homeless and the crazy. With no law enforcement. It was like Hamsterdam.

A boatload of homeless also showed up from all over expecting hotel rooms. Tents increased 400% in a matter of two weeks. Utter shitshow (literal and figurative).

BART, the subway, also turned into a moving homeless shelter with so few riding it (me being one of the unlucky few; wouldn’t be surprised if that’s where I got C-19, honestly).

zackster maybe they are a bit more hardened than my Mrs. I drove through the city last weekend and it looked pretty dreary to me. Not as much foot traffic and a lot more unsavory types hanging around .

Can’t image what it was like with the BLM riots a few months back too.

Aye, just frustrating really. Two weeks and everyone I know is saying either they or someone they know has had to pull their kids out of school. After having months to prepare, it’s an absolute disgrace they didn’t have test and trace running and this all sorted out to any sort of degree. Fuck the self serving Tory cunts.

Am hoping I don’t get the dreaded call from the nursery to say they will be shutting down due to a positive test.

I was talking to my brother over the weekend and between me, my family (around 15-20 of us) and my closest friends and their families, not one of us actually knows anyone who has caught Covid throughout all of this. Obviously it’s out there and people on this very board have caught it, but it still surprised me when we thought about it

If we’re testing 200,000 people a day and only 3% of those that think they have it have got it, it’s not widespread, is it?

My mate has a horrific infection / cough at the moment. He’s saying he can’t go to the docs for antibiotics or any help until he’s got a negative covid test back so even though he knows he’s just ill, he’s done a test anyway otherwise he’ll be on his back for weeks.

How does he really know he doesn’t have COVID unless he has a test, Wally? There are so many varying degrees of illness that come with it from people being asymptomatic to dying from it. At the end of the day, if they want to slow down / prevent the spread of the virus , these are the types of measures that have to be put in place.
