The General Covid19 Thread
How many on here have actually downloaded the Track and Trace app, out of interest?
Wally I don’t buy all the hoax theories and Bill Gates is an alien globalist etc etc but I’m really starting to question whether it’s as serious as they say, only because they seem to be writing rules for themselves. It was the same in Ireland a few weeks ago, 100 politicians went on a Golf weekend to a hotel, few rounds, big dinner etc, some travelled from the continent too. Makes you wonder considering they have family like the rest of us.
I have. It’ll fail because thick fucking cunts will refuse to do for an unspecified reason, or one they definitely don’t understand. Look at Germany and Italy. This island is full of thick, selfish utter fucking cunts.
I’ve just had an Android pop-up from the app, potential exposure.
Clicked on it to see deets, it disappeared.
Cant find any way to review alerts in app itself.
Splendid!

Spot on from Darius. Nighttime economy is on its last legs and getting zero help from government
Along_the_Wire do you trust government developed technology? And I don’t mean big brother aspects - do you trust technology developed by a bunch of incompetents? Imagine the app pings every time you walk past someone who has covid… that’s not how you develop the disease (you need to standing next to them for a period of time) but you will be self isolating for 2 weeks despite very low risk. I’m open minded but I want to understand how it works and that I’m not going to be spending the next 6 months at home isolating due to an app that doesn’t work properly. Most people I’ve spoken to so far (who are pro-masks, pro-distancing) are wary…
Apparently coppers aren’t allowed to have it installed on police phones or carry thier own phones with them if they have it on it. Not sure why. Location data and it’s not annonymous?
Not installed it yet. Waiting for the first data scandal to break.
This is worth a read… might well be the case that the technology is sound, but I do want to have confidence in it before committing…

That isn’t how the app works though mate. Close proximity for 15 minutes triggers an alert.
If you read the facts, rather than imagine them, it’s easier to get a better grasp of these things
Mad_Cyril Happy to download if the technology works… But you are not going to know that until it’s in use for a while.
btw Singapore moved away from Apple/google mobile tracing…. why? And has this app solved the problems the Singaporeans discovered? You don’t need to have much of an imagination to have a good stab at answering that.
Another hypothetical situation for you.. you go to a restaurant at 6pm, register on the app, eat and leave at 7 with no one having sat next to you. Someone with covid turns up at 9pm, registers and the next day tests positive. You will have to isolate for 2 weeks. The problem is that you are unable to check out of places…. a total waste of your two weeks.
Had a skilled nursing facility mass testing event over the weekend. 79 resident, 68 positive. Utter shitshow - just after I read the manager the riot act last week around their behavior. Still waiting on staff results. Staff are a bigger pain as we know where the residents are. Everything is tracked by county so if someone works in SF but lives in Alameda or San Mateo County, it becomes a jurisdictional issue and communication isn’t always great when it comes to contact tracing
Largely Jewish populace and they kept meeting in rooms to plan Rosh Hashanah events. I get it. They’re old and stuck in their ways. Their faith and the events that surround are probably what keep them going. But it’s on the staff to manage their needs along with their health, which they’re not doing.
California has a tiered system for what can be open. They might single-handedly bump SF County down a tier if there are hospitalizations. Shame is we’re doing great around here. Far better than any other major city in the US. More testing. Lower positivity (<4 per 100K/day - we were at 13-16 in July).
