Just one person in ICU because of Covid19 in Finland.
The General Covid19 Thread
Very true Dave, very true.
Meanwhile good luck America.
hugopal Partly, but those states above have pretty much fully opened up and no one is following any of the guidelines.
There has been more testing in the US so that’s partly responsible… but what doesn’t lie is the increase in hospital admissions. Trump you bellend.
Having now been back to work for a week or so, in San Francisco, testing is a huge part of the rise. And we’re not that worried as long as hospitalizations remain steady. We also know of some duplication being reported to the State. We report by County. San Francisco, geographically, is a very, very small county (it’s the only City & County in the State). What ends up happening is we’ll have a testing event at a skilled nursing facility. Some residents will test positive, but it’s mostly staff. Said staff work in San Francisco, but cannot afford to live in San Francisco, so they’ll live in a surrounding county. We’ll report it as an SF case, given where the transmission likely occurred and where the testing happened, but San Mateo County will also report it as the person resides there. It’s a complicated jurisdictional issue. Deaths have been at 45 for a while now, hospitalizations have been minimal - so we’re basically like, whatever. State and National numbers are one thing, but we’re good over here.
Oh yeah, forgot you had it. All good now?
jonattonyeah was quite surprised California was having a blow up in cases (aside form the issues you talk about) - thought they had a really strict lockdown?
jonattonyeah Contact tracing is virtually non-existent though, right? And all the States that opened early are looking at steep infection rates versus those that haven’t opened yet seeing a decrease in rates. All the countries who’ve reopened for business - Japan, New Zealand, Australia, France, Germany, Greece - have all banned US travelers from coming. Trump holding an indoor rally this weekend despite the expert medical advice. I mean, could he and his admin do one thing right? Just one? Fuckin abhorrent.
For the “Greatest Country on Earth” its not a good look.
Am having to watch Royal Ascot on tv instead of being there.
Another devastating loss to Covid-19.

Some decent news - a cheap steroid that helps reduce the risk of dying by a third:
Saw that, fantastic.
The problem is that we don’t have a functional federal government. There has been no coherent response. It’s been up to States and Counties. Some of these States and Counties believe government is an effective social and economic tool. Others do not. So in the Bay Area we’ve been good. Masks everywhere. Shelter in place was adhered to. Testing got off slow but that had more to do with messaging than capacity. Contact tracing has been good because people did what they were asked. So spread has been in shared roofs and shared workspaces like kitchens. Community spread has been minimal (it looks bad ‘cause the State defaults to community when a contact isn’t known, but after a bit of time we realize, oh, they worked at A Facility or lived at B). My case is still listed under “case of interest” as we don’t know where I got it from. We usually do. So that’s working. The Bay also trends young. Arizona? Fucked. Totally fucked. Places closing their borders? I swear California should do the same. We can handle it right now. Just fine. We can’t tackle the malfeasance of other jurisdictions.
See my reply above. The spike in cases was been due to contact tracing and mass rapid testing. We get one positive at one skilled nursing facility, we have a court order to get an entire staff and resident roster. We test everyone as best as we can. They refuse? We have a court order to keep them away from the facility. We’re getting a lot of positives due to this focused testing. We have just under 3,000 positives and 46 deaths. We wish we had 20,000 positives and 46 deaths. Don’t care about positives. The more, the better - as long as hospitalizations and deaths remain steady or flat.
I was reading how the Contact Tracing Bill that got passed had hit a snag due to privacy concerns on the apps, sharing of info to 3rd parties etc. It’s certainly nowhere near its supposed to be anyway.
