Yup, you’re right. PCP was the most common form of AIDS-related death. So much so that a death from PCP was immediately tested for HIV in the early days, given most of us come across PCP at one point or another, but our immune systems (assuming our T-cell count is above 200) fight it off easily - a death from PCP speaks to something else going on (in that case, HIV-related immuno-suppression, the body just couldn’t fight it off).
We’ll see how it shakes out with COVID.
