Funky alberta is far from a shining example of how to live with covid. our provincial government has been completely inept at every step and to add insult to injury, they just proposed a 4% wage roll back for health care support staff and are likely to do the same for nurses. we are better vaccinated than most of the rest of the world, but among the lowest rates in canada. we’re only doing well because it’s summer, wait until november/december and judge the idea that we’re doing well at that point.
What 303 and Z said.
Grant’s views are balanced and he gives a shit about society and other people… nothing wrong with that at all. As for vaccine passports, fact of the matter is that sitting or standing next to someone who hasn’t been vaccinated or doesn’t have antibodies significantly increases the risks of catching it. Frankly fuck your liberties and your me-first attitude.
How is everyone this morning?
hugopal Zieg mir deine Papieren! Vaccine passports have the distinct whiff of East Germany about them, not to mention the expense, administration, civil unrest and discrimination litigation that would result. Moreover, the vaccines don’t stop the spread of covid. They also disproportionately affect the poor, working class and immigrant population that all good socialists are supposed to care so deeply about. Better to vaccinate the world (we should be doing more) and complete the herd immunity/acquiring of antibodies we are well on the way to achieving.
hugopal I’m not sure what the commute has got to do with anything - I prefer working in the office and would prefer my teams to be in - it’s way more efficient and things get done much quicker and much more easily.
If I don’t have a vaccine passport, I can’t go on holiday on Saturday. And if I want to go to a mass indoor event, we have to drop to the lowest common denominator when it comes to safety? Just fucking stupid.
And the old flu chestnut. It’s not the same is it?
hugopal Correct.

For sure, and those who think that they’ll just be temporary for one or two types of places such as nightclubs, and not the thin end of a wedge, are just as foolish as those who were fine with lockdown as it would be only “three weeks to flatten the curve”.
Along_the_Wire yeah, see that doesn’t really add up, as if you really did give a shit about society and other people then you wouldn’t so readily dismiss the valid concerns and problems of so many.
You’re acting a bigot, while claiming/signaling that your doing so is for supposed virtuous reasons.
hugopal I think I’ve previously said I don’t give a fuck about your opinions. I honestly and laughably don’t care if you think things don’t add up.
The same percentage that is happy to ride off the coat-tails of everyone who does the decent thing for society and takes a vaccine?
Plenty of people had concerns but have still taken the vaccine. Most of them are anti-vax idiots
Old-Dutch it’s just flu, Dutchy. Flu wiped out 1,200 people in 2019 in the UK. We need to move on
Along_the_Wire I’m not sure what the commute has got to do with anything
That comment was in reference to Jules as he’s such a lockdown zealot for some reason.

For traveling abroad vaccine certification is a bit more complicated. I can understand them as being something which is more within the rights of a country to request for people willing to go somewhere, even if I am still also ultimately against it as the system is so open to abuse - not only from those wishing to deny others from traveling into a country, but also from those wishing to prevent people from leaving their own country. We’ve already seen with the UK in its dealings with France and India how covid passports will increasingly make regular people and their ability to travel pawns in tit-for-tat international negotiations. International travel will become something you are less able to take for granted, being subjected to the political whims of your own government as well as those of other countries.
You also might be falsely assuming that covid passports won’t be readily expanded in future to find even more excuses for people to not be able to travel into and out of countries.
With so many countries demanding covid passports already it is of course tough to not acquiesce to them though.
Domestic use of Covid passports is even less understandable and even more heinous. They’re providing a ready-made excuse for governments to effectively end mass gatherings for good, whether it be a concert or political protest. I remember you being sceptical in the past as to whether they’d be used as a requirement to enter nightclubs, well the threat is now there. Once you’ve accepted it’s fine to discriminate against people on the basis of what’s on their covid passport it is an incredibly slippery slope - want to exclude certain people from public life? Introduce mandatory booster jabs for events and put them to the back of the queue. Easy. You’re rather naive if you think it’ll stop at only covid information being displayed on there as well.
Along_the_Wire And the old flu chestnut. It’s not the same is it?
For unvaccinated 35s-and-under, and for those older who have been vaccinated, then covid is now no more dangerous than flu. Covid passports are about control, not health and safety.
It is restrictions on civil liberties with covid as the excuse which is the “lowest common denominator” approach, as it is denying people their freedom based on the irrational fears of a few. That’s also one of the reasons why so many socialists/communists/Marxists love them so much, it is dragging everyone down to their own timid, uneventful and unproductive existence, while maximising state control.
Along_the_Wire your empathy and good-nature is really shining through Grant. You’re clearly a man of the people. So so virtuous. Your narrow-minded, expletive-ridden rants would make Jesus proud.

And if 94% of over 50s and those at risk hadn’t been vaccinated, we’d still massively be in the shit.
hugopal Take a few fucking clowns out of my life and I am extremely tolerant and caring. I’m not a fan of religion, so couldn’t give a fuck about what Jesus thinks of me. I also love swearing.
