Make it law. It’s easy to enforce by punishing shops, bars, supermarkets for allowing them in their premises without them than seek out individuals.

Along_the_Wire for masks at this stage, i’d agree, but there’s a lot that’s still unsettled and legislation gets complicated. i’m sure if they tried to legislate mask use in the states, there would be an immediate constitutional challenge.

They made it compulsory to wear masks when entering supermarkets/bakeries within the 1st month here. Nobody complained. Flattened the curve.
The paradox of people defending their right not to wear a mask which ultimately puts themselves and others in danger is mind boggling.

LT42 your first sentence is fully accurate (or at least i assume it is, i obviously don’t live there) and the last is basically what i meant by complicated. part of the resistance is an anchor effect, part of it is a contrarian attitude, part of it is that right-leaning people are more susceptible to conspiracy theories, and part of it is that some are just poorly informed. the solution just isn’t simple.

LT42 i think part of it is that people, often rightly, don’t trust what the government says because they are clearly wrong most of the time and have been caught lying so many times, we’ve all lost count. there is no credibility there, plain and simple.

But you’re right, 303, I agree with what you’re saying. In this age of over-information it’s just too hard to corral the populace. I don’t know who or what is to blame for that.

Should I feel guilty about not wearing a mask in Tesco at 7am?

There’s a Tesco Metro right at the end of my run and I swing in there to get a few bits and bobs and then head back to Casa Smalls.

There’s never anyone else in there at that time but I could take a mask running with me if mandatory.

I dunno about guilty, but I think you should wear a mask if for nothing more than optics. The berks who refuse need to be pushed as far to the margins as possible. Public shaming might be our only hope. Not to say people should be confrontational (I don’t think they should), just that if that one dude is the only one in the shop with no mask, he’s going to feel pretty stupid.

From what I understand from today, if the US doesn’t get a hold of this and soon, that could be a wrap on containment. We’ll either be in an okay place by the 31st, or we lost the war.

Is this what life is going to be like for the next year? Queuing for M&S, no nights out in the pub with your mates, people scared they are going to pick a virus up, huge division between those who follow the medical/scientific guidance and those who say “fuck that”, no clubs, lots of sectors fucked in terms of their employees etc? We are truely fucked if that’s the case. The world is in a truly shit place currently.
