Along_the_Wire We laugh at the US on this shit and they’re excellent at it - in Nevada, California and airports at least.

Adherence to mask wearing requirements has been really good around here. No coincidence we’ve fared far better than most places despite having high population density. We were going to drop the mask requirements given infection rates are low and ICU capacity is high, but it seems we’re just going to roll with them through the holidays just to be on the safe side. Dunno when they’ll drop the requirements for public transportation. Maybe never.

Feel better today - little or no fever last night, which is a significant step. Will start testing myself over the weekend and hope for a negative ahead of next Thursday.

Not tasting definitely makes me not interested in drinking, which is a pleasant surprise. If I do get to go away on holiday, it’ll be weird not tasting stuff and strikes me as quite disappointing

You can’t serve alcohol in Finland without asking for a covid passport after 5 PM starting this Saturday here. With covid passport it’s like before covid when it comes to opening times and attendence in bars, restaurants and clubs. Before it was at midnight, which was stupid.

Yet on the Finnair flight I was on (LHR-HEL-PVG) they didn’t give a shit about masks in Business Class.

And all the tests I had to do were required (AFAIK) by the Chinese, not the Finns for transiting. At least, all my test results were only ever given to, or asked for, by the Chinese consulate and Border Control.

bosstrabs Finnair is a shitshow. Never flown with them, because they’re overexpensive, you can get the same shit treatment for half the money.

Along_the_Wire Yes submitted through an app to the Chinese Consulate which returns a ‘green code’ (scannable green QR code), which was checked (the colour only) for boarding by the Finnair staff, obviously not for transit in Finland or to board their flight (otherwise they would have their own system) but presumably like a Chinese Visa check (to ensure we would be able to get into the country and they wouldn’t have the arse-ache of trying to get us on immediate flights back).

The QR code was only actually scanned by Border Control staff on arrival in Shanghai.

That article doesn’t report on the most important datapoint though. Countless studies have shown that vaccines will not entirely stop you from becoming infected, though they will significantly help. The most powerful outcome of being vaccinated is the huge reduction in the severity of the virus once contracted - leading to a big drop in the number of hospitalisations and deaths as a result of COVID. I haven’t seen any studies yet that show the link between time post vaccination, and likelihood of a ‘severe’ COVID infection, if contracted… Vaguely recall seeing an interview with one of the UK JCVI members who said they thought/believed/hoped that resistance once contracted would continue longer than efficacy against contraction, but I don’t think there’s enough meaningful data to really know yet…

Its getting ridiculous how about a cheap enough anti viral drug is created that you give to anyone that tests positive, one that reduces viral load and has over 90% chance of stopping hospitalization and deaths. We already have 2 that are way over priced and shouldn’t be. One in ivermectin that requires more trails but could well be a huge u turn in coming months.

Smallman1 If you ticked the ‘has minerals’ box you wouldn’t be allowed in. Bringing in tungsten or aluminium is frowned upon and you definitely have to go through the ‘Something to declare’ lane.
