That article doesn’t report on the most important datapoint though. Countless studies have shown that vaccines will not entirely stop you from becoming infected, though they will significantly help. The most powerful outcome of being vaccinated is the huge reduction in the severity of the virus once contracted - leading to a big drop in the number of hospitalisations and deaths as a result of COVID. I haven’t seen any studies yet that show the link between time post vaccination, and likelihood of a ‘severe’ COVID infection, if contracted… Vaguely recall seeing an interview with one of the UK JCVI members who said they thought/believed/hoped that resistance once contracted would continue longer than efficacy against contraction, but I don’t think there’s enough meaningful data to really know yet…

An anti viral drug given to someone who tests positive to reduce viral load and stop hospitalisation and death by 90+% is a much better idea and we already have them but drug companies are ripping the arse out of it. You think about the cost to administering vaccines and the health workers required that could be bloody freed up to help the NHS more but we know that wont happen because big pharma don’t want us to have a cure to this problem they want us going back every 3 months for decades after decades so they can make trillions apon trillions.

21 in Shanghai, strict ‘central quarantine’ in a designated hotel. No contact with anyone except a Hazmat suit wearer who takes your temperature every day and a nasal swab every 3. Food provided on a tray, airline style. No outside deliveries except essentials (booze and cigs confiscated).

14 more in Beijing, locked in your apartment with a detector on your door monitoring if you leave. Less bad as you’re in your own gaff. Mates or deliverymen paid by apps can do drops at your door, so at least you can have Indian takeaways and crates of booze dropped.

Yeah - is a good idea, and in combination with vaccination offers the best chance of beating the virus IMO - but not in isolation.

Funky Funky you fucking clown - the world’s scientist have been working on RNA vaccines for over a century - there weren’t many significant corners cut outside of red tape. Anti-viral drugs are being worked on and I’m sure in time they’ll be in plentiful supply, but for now, I and many millions of others are prepared to take a proven vaccine rather than a horse deworming product that seems to have become the poster child for the frothing anti-vax brigade. Do you honestly think that the reason why a vaccine might wane after three-months is because “Big Pharma” doesn’t want to find a long-term solution? Really?

The vaccines were developed in a substantially reduced timeframe in response to a global pandemic. They will continue to adapt and improve the vaccines to increase their efficacy as well as developing other forms of treatment. What they achieved in such a short period is nothing short of incredible. The research will undoubtedly continue and they will find more effective means of treatment. Abdicating from a programme of boosters simply because you are unhappy that there isn’t a “perfect solution” yet and use that as an excuse not to have it and instead claim that it is a “big pharma conspiracy” makes no sense whatsoever. You’re just not paying attention if you really think that is the case.

These are the kind of conspiratorial comments I was referring to. I don’t like the pharmaceutical industry. Probably in second place after the tobacco industry on the list of cuntiness. Because yeah - there’s some sense to what Brother Funk is saying. Whether it’s about COVID, whether it’s about cancer, whether it’s AIDS or malaria - pharmaceutical companies exist to maximise their profits, because - ya know, capitalism.

It’s the idea that they would intentionally draw out finding a permanent and comprehensive treatment to solve the collective world’s COVID challenge that I can’t get behind. Pharma companies are not deciding not to cure cancer - they just can’t fucking do it. There’s an arms race between most pharma companies to try and solve cancer prevention and treatment, because they all know the first to do it are gonna make more coin than they ever believed possible.

vinnyt77 Dude i attached the UK gov figures for hospitalisations the other day it proves that vaccinated out weight unvaccinated by quite a bit now, that may not be the case in every part of Europe for other factors i.e. they take precautions and have a lower obesity and less underlying conditions but giving time it will due to the pretty obvious fact that vaccines wane quicker than first stated.

In that case, yes, as I took a ‘fit to fly’ test at dnanudge in Covent Garden with the additional requirement of antibody (blood) tests required by China (so basically a ‘Fit to Fly +’ package). Obviously this has my passport number on as it was required on the document to be sent to the Chinese Consulate.

Let’s take one age group as an example - say 40-49, as that’s my age bracket. In the reporting period, there were a total of 1,117 overnight admissions for COVID. Of those 521 had received two doses of a vaccine, 45 had received one dose more than 3 weeks before they were admitted, and 2 had received one dose of a vaccine, but less than 3 weeks before their admission.

Filter it on 2 x vaccinations, as that makes my case harder to make, right? What that shows is that to 23rd November, 76.7% of 40 to 44 years olds, and 82% of 45-49 years olds had had 2 x vaccinations.

What it will show you is that there are 4,091,543 people aged 40-44, and 4,303,967 aged 45-49.

Using the % vaccination data, that means that 3,138,213 people aged 40-44 have had 2 x vaccinations, and 3,539,252 people aged 45-49, for a total of 6,677,465.

That means 953,330 aged 40-44 were unvaccinated, and 764,715 aged 45-49 were unvaccinated, for a total of 1,718,045.

So - using the overnight admission data:

Unvaccinated = 534 out of a total of 1,718,045 = 0.031%
Vaccinated = 568 out of a total of 6,677,465 = 0.008%

Simple statistical conclusion is that if you’re aged 40-49, unvaccinated, and contract COVID, you’re 4 x as likely to require hospitalisation of some form.
