LT42 it’s Dominic Raab being quoted in the Telegraph (sure, sometimes he’s mistaken, but still).
The source you posted there also says nothing about those covid cases being Omicron.
Also, the overall level being “at 1,534 (vs 8k in Jan’21 peak)”, hardly counts as “spiking big time”! When the peak in the past has been 8k, then only 1.5k, with a week-on-week 30% change, is nothing but a molehill and no cause for major concern.
Also, the majority of those people being counted in the London 1.5k numbers will also not be being hospitalised because of covid. As the FT reported last week:
"The surge in infections is starting to heap pressure on the health system in the UK capital, with the number of Covid-positive people requiring a hospital bed rising 16 per cent to 1,248 in the week ending December 14.
Of the 169 additional coronavirus-positive patients in hospital, 111 were not being treated primarily for Covid and only incidentally tested positive after admission for other conditions, suggesting the figures could overstate the level of additional pressure on the NHS."

I do find it amusing though how the FT manages to contradict itself in the space of two paragraphs, in first claiming pressure is being heaped on the NHS, then straight after pointing out that the level of additional pressure could be being overstated.
