NasserAlazzawi As I said before, the projection of 5 million dead if they abandon zero-COVID has been driving policy. It has been highly successful up until now.

Despite what Hugo said about these projections, this seems realistic. Imagine letting it rip now on a population that has no immunity? The US has 1 million dead with around 1/5th of China’s population. *Whether those died of COVID or with COVID is a different debate.

The Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccinations are less effective than Pfizer and Moderna, (sorry, Zack, ModeRNA), but I don’t think that’s what’s driving policy so much as the thought of that many dead bodies.

We’ve had the same problem - figuring out whether Covid was the culprit or not. We had one dude - 106 years old - who died. Was that Covid’s doing or was he already well on his way? All things considered we do okay given we’re lucky to have a large department with a lot of funding. We have the bandwidth to track things accurately. I can’t imagine what less-resourced areas are dealing with. To be honest, my usual job (Hiv) we’re over-funded. Money could be used elsewhere for other services but that’s not my call. We don’t need the money and often end up rolling unspent funds over annually.

Living in China as an expat says several things to me.

You condone genocide
You condone the invasion of Ukraine
You condoned the ‘relocation’ of the residents for the building of the Olympic stadium
You have a complete disregard for humanity
You have no morals and principles
You can’t score a western woman for love nor money

How do sex tourists/pests go on during these lockdowns ? Can you still get cheap slags delivered to your lair? Tough times I imagine.

To me there are two worlds in most countries - the political world, and the world where ordinary people are getting on with their lives living in a country that they want to because they like it or have interests there. And they’re actually quite happy even if the rules are different.

The heart wants what the heart wants - Life is too short to let politics choose everything for you.
