How would following the restrictions allow us to go back to some semblance of normality and re-start the economy? The instant people start sharing airspace the virus will spread again and they’ll have to ramp up the restrictions! It doesn’t take a genius to realise this Covid hokey cokey is not a sustainable approach without a vaccine or herd immunity.

We’re now well into the second wave and there are loads of cases but zero excess deaths. The latest figures for England and Wales actually show deaths in hospitals and care homes are below the five year average! This despite the fact the population grows and ages every year!

I don’t blame people for putting their own families health first. I just don’t think they realise how severe the long-term consequences will be for the young and those on low incomes.

Agreed. But it doesn’t mean we should just throw our hands up the air and say “Fuck it!” until we see a vaccine.

SM001 Agreed. But it does mean we need some kind of major rethink that does not involve oscillating between lockdowns and easing. More emphasis on protecting the economy that funds the NHS, more emphasis on improving diet and exercise within the unhealthy classes.

Keen for a bit more of the eat out to help out action though.

Went out for dinner a couple of nights ago here (distanced table obvs)… there were 3-4 tables that clearly had people from different households… Can’t see that anything has changed under the move to Tier 2 in London (haven’t been to any pubs mind)…quite a few people on trains without masks (still haven’t seen any enforcement in 3-4 months) and you get off at Waterloo and see tfl workers having face to face conversations without masks (thickets)… after yesterday’s new cases, they need to move to a circuit breaker ASAP and scrap these tiers imo.. of course they won’t because that would be admitting their grand plan hasn’t worked out…

Yeah but …. as discussed above ….. what good would it do for everyone to follow the rules religiously unless that was to become the new permanent way of life ?

I’d go for a RAG system. If you’re green, fill your boots. Amber, steady on there. Red, don’t leave your house without a hazmat suit.

I’d basically just incarcerate anyone who can’t wear a mask properly or be trusted to wash their hands.

And then burn the prison to the ground.

Not sure why you would doubt a vaccine is coming…. mid 2021 seems likely… so these are delay tactics - trying to keep the death toll down till then. Yes covid mutates but viruses tend to mutate to a more benign form that doesn’t kill the host (because then that virus can spread faster and become more dominant amongst all strains). You’re right the risk is that we get stuck in a never ending cycle of pandemics but personally don’t buy that (and don’t want to buy it either 🙂)

That is mental. Dont get me wrong there are thickets partying in the streets over here, last night before lockdown, but they are mostly students.

Professional people going to/from work are all wearing masks though. You lot appear to be vastly behind form what i see on the news.

There’s a loophole where you can have a business lunch in a restaurant. The fucking cunts.

I have to be honest, once I get home I’m just hoping I bump into one of these hoaxers in Aldı who gives me lip about wearing a mask. That’s all I want this year. I’m beyond giving out about selfish people or idiots who got an education off Facebook. Zero tolerance.

Some cunt in Tesco earlier breezing in, buying a pint of milk and then breezing out without a mask and with more than a hint of arrogance.

Hope he has a massive coronary later.

LOL. Just Smallman giving out about the ignorance & selfishness of others..

Every time you think ‘hmm, Smallman is a bresh of fresh air, and because of that we should cut him some slack for his mental deficiencies and lack of self-awareness’, he posts something that makes you want to hit him with a spade again.

I haven’t set foot on a train since March and don’t plan to until covid is in the rear view mirror. Not even a brace of lukewarm pint cans of Stella and a katsu curry from Wasabi will tempt me back. Its that fucking serious lads.

There’s a few people on a trade forum I belong to who actively boast about not wearing masks and bang on herd immunity and the virus only kills the elderly and people with health problems. I have to ignore what they post these days otherwise I’d get banned for causing trouble.

Lol, a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma is me Dave!

                    Hang tough brother!

Not trying to be funny mate, but what death toll? According to the ONS deaths are currently at the five year average.

Maybe I’m being thick here but I can’t work out what death toll you are referring to. Either you think the ONS are wrong, are lying, or you have an alternative source of death stats?
