Dubman I know a decorator who openly admits not wearing a face and says it does nothing to stop the spread of the virus and that lockdowns don’t work
Thing is mate, there’s not even a hard consensus amongst the scientific orthodoxy that such beliefs are false. It has been stated many times that the benefits of wearing masks may, to at least some extent, be offset by associated reduced vigilance in terms of social distancing, washing hands and avoiding crowded places.
And as for lockdowns, it is a truth universally acknowledged that all they achieve is to flatten the peak, which is to say spread the number of infections over a longer period of time. Yes, this may be a good thing in terms of not breaching healthcare capacity and postponing the spread until such time as vaccines are available, but it could easily be argued that the cost of this in terms of lost businesses, homes, livelihoods, education, delayed cancer treatments etc are not immaterial.
To conclude, I am in favour of masks and, on balance, I think the lockdowns probably are our least worst option, but it shouldn’t be regarded as a thought-crime to take a different view of what are legitimately complicated and nuanced judgements.
