jonattonyeah This is a fairly recent phenomenon - when it was all Bud and all that shite, it was piss weak - I remember going to New York and the Budweiser was under 3% - couldn’t get pissed. The flip side was having someone over from the US and feeding him 5 pints of Stella and then watching him puking out of a cab window at 8pm.
Zackster has been asleep for some time now according to the surgeon
Have you ever seen a Yank in the kitchen at 7:54am and still only in 3rd gear? No you haven’t.
Cankles-McJeggings Just picked up on your histamine post. Something I’ve been looking into for a while. What’s your reason?
Simply having had some issues for a period of my body not being particularly great at breaking down histamine, resulting in occasional histamine overloads.
If it’s something you’re looking in to then I’d recommend finding a probiotic supplement which only has strains which serve to counteract histamine. You have to be very careful with finding a supplement because some probiotics serve to decrease histamine, but there are also ones which boost histamine (probiotic fermented foods such as sauerkraut and yoghurt also tend to boost histamine). This article contains a list of which to look for and which to avoid:
I currently take this once a day during hayfever season when my histamine levels are more prone to being elevated, as well as before large meals. It is made up of two strains which counteract histamine (bif. bifidum and bif. longum).
The other supplement which I would recommend for this is Diamine Oxidase (DAO). It’s really good to take before a heavy meal, and/or an occasion where you’ll be drinking a decent amount of alcohol as well (as alcohol prohibits your body’s ability to metabolise histamine). They can also help to a slightly lesser degree if taken after such a meal and/or drinking.
DAO supplements can be relatively expensive and tough to find, but they do the trick.
There are a number of other supplements out there which have been recommended to also help, e.g. L-Methionine and Quercetin, that I’ve had some benefits from in the past.
Yeh I’ve done a lot of research on the probiotics route too. I react to foods high in histamine. Avocado and spinach both property fuck me over.
Just happened out of nowhere last year. Saw 3 different immunologists and they all said it was anecdotal and they also all dismissed mast cell activation. It’s still hoodoo for a lot and seems to be recognised more in holistic and naturopathic avenues rather than full on peer reviewed research.
Cankles-McJeggings it came out of the blue with me as well a few years ago. It’s also tough to pinpoint exactly what caused it, but from trial and error of taking pretty much every supplement I’ve seen recommended I’ve found things which helped to a degree, and whether it be partly coincidental or as a result it’s not been quite as bad this year.
The additional impact of alcohol in reducing your body’s ability to break down histamine really should not be underestimated. Going easy on the drink when having a meal which could potentially have trigger foods, and/or also taking a DAO supplement, definitely helps. Clear spirits and white wine also have lower histamine than dark spirits and red wine. Beer also needs to be in moderation.
Also, shellfish is a hard avoid - it can be liable to having more histamine than basically any other foodstuff. Any fish also needs to be super fresh otherwise it can also go off the charts.
I can’t drink any wines now. I generally drink white spirits and the odd beer. Bananas and deep sea fish fuck me up. Most nuts do too. It all happened like I said overnight. All the foods I can’t eat now were what I basically lived on. Been a reet fucking ball ache. Also most vitamins and supplements do the same.
A Yank rocking back and forth on the edge of a brown sofa at 10am, digging up any last bits of branch from the grooves of the coffee table in an attempt to pack the end of one last ‘L’ as Sky News comes on its fourth identical hourly cycle and no-one’s really noticed?
Not happening.

Seems sensible.

Yeah it is a pain.
I’m surprised by your vitamins and supplements comment though - vitamin C + zinc for instance should actually be beneficial for lowering histamine response.

The same martinez brothers mix has been on repeat for the last 6 hours. Saying things like “I know, right?” and “I could care less!”, not realising each sentence brings them one step closer to being told to leave. Everyone still raging as fuck that they had the balls to double drop their last 2 pills an hour ago, instead of splitting into halves for everyone there. Now so fucked they are asking for a phone charger every 9 minutes.

hugopal what’s the issue with histamine levels, what are the tell tale signs?
Mine is reasonably debilitating brain fog, tiredness, tingling in feet and hands after consuming said offenders. I used to eat banana, spinach and avocado every day. If I made that mistake now I’d need the day off work. I kid you not, it’s like being poisoned.
There’s various causes, mine has been attributed to foreign body implant rejection leading to autoimmune disorder. (Poly Hernia guaze which I had removed because of it) Most have no idea or indication as to the cause but it’s getting more prevalent and highly likely to be connected to use of pesticides and GMO.
IBS is another symptom lots have due to it.
