Yeah I’m the same. We get some really nice wine in and while I know what I like, it’s rarely to do with price. Same with most spirits. I oft rely on what our liquor reps tell us. Or our patrons.

Disagree. Bourbons can be a very sweet, especially on the more mainstream end (specially sourmashes like JD), and therefore lend themselves to mixing, but ryes have a complexity to them. They don’t have that earthiness that a peaty Islay Scotch will have but there is some nuance there.
