OPD is not messing about tonight. Alameda County ordered a 8:00 curfew today through June 5th. 7:45 hit and the small number of protesters were given a 15 minute warning (I can hear from my building). 8:00 and then came the cops with the tear gas.
You know what? So be it.
We’ve had three nights of absolute chaos. Even the most impassioned of protesters should take a look at the looting, the destruction, and the message being totally muddled by bad actors and realize that everyone needs a night or two. “George Floyd didn’t get a night or two….” Anyone who thinks this still about that poor fellow is being reductive and stupid. The protesters are using his death, rightfully, as a proxy for larger issues. The looters never cared to begin with.
Seems they’ve moved up Broadway. Fine with me. They destroyed everything up there already.
