mono-stereo All that gear, all those sound tracks, all dosh… best thing he ever did was B Y Whop To The Y / Siyncho

303abuser Excellent, any suggestions on what I should buy chaps? I have no plug ins of any sort at the moment. Just using the in built stuff with Ableton.

Amps is there anything you ‘need’ specifically? like a compressor, eq, synth, etc? i have several of their plugins, but mostly more expensive stuff that went on massive discount.

edit: looking at their page now, maybe check out some of the unfiltered audio stuff, their fx related software can be a lot of fun for sound design. like sandman pro, dent 2, fault are all good prices. you can also demo anything to try it first too.

303abuser As I have nothing, I would assume I need everything! But I guess a good reverb or compressor should be top of my list? Or is there a synth I can’t do without?

Amps i have lion and oberhausen which are both amazing, but not at this price. i bought both for less than $40 each. for compressors, i’m waiting for zip to go on sale, if i can get it for $40 or less, i’ll buy it.

i’m assuming a black friday sale is coming tomorrow or the next day, so i’d use this on something already cheap (you’ll get a handful of free utility plugins with it), then look for bigger stuff later this week based on the new sale.

Is the Unfiltered Audio stuff any good?

i love their stuff. i have lion, triad, byome, dent2, and spec ops. i will add that i paid about $120 total for all of it though, don’t go anywhere near list prices for them.

        Sweet, just bough Fault.

All the compressors and reverbs where a bit pricey for my current tastes, so went with a cheap toy for want of a better description.

Amps that’ll be cool for sound design, the modulation system is really good. the expensive plugins, with the exception of 3 or 4 new ones, will all go on sale for $50 or less at some point and you can combine those with loyalty vouchers, that’s the way to go.

Winner. I don’t really want to buy loads of stuff at the moment, I’m still working out the basics, but I’m sure that will all change soon enough.

yeah that’s a good strategy, i didn’t buy a single plugin until about 2 years in. it’s helpful to know what you need vs just buying stuff because it’s cheap.

Amps and there you go, $29.99 for any plugin until the 26th, with 2 more sales to follow. now’s the time to look as synths or the more expensive stuff if you’re inclined.

BFD1-2999 is the code for anyone interested.

Amps yeah i’m looking at metric ab for mix referencing. i may wait until the 2nd or 3rd sale as it’s the only thing i think i need and i would imagine the discounts will get better.

303abuser in CAD, my upgrade is $290, $230 after the discount.

Ableton continue to take the piss with their pricing. I understand that Live is basically their only product, but they’re not exactly hurting for usership. That’s basically saying ‘fuck you’ to people who have already paid for the program.

I appreciate that they’re one of the few that do CAD and don’t revert to USD, but still… To compare, Cubase 10.5 Pro to 11 Pro is $150 CAD. Logic outright is $250 if I’m not mistaken? Cubase Pro is $350 CAD.

So yeah, Ableton’s pricing is way out of whack. 🙁 To be honest I’m not that fussed about some of the stuff in the latest version. There’s nothing that made me go ‘phwoar’ and then they continue to charge full on DAW purchase pricing for upgrading… Not cool.

Amps Anyone got any tutorials or info on making giant fuck off laser noises? Preferably in Ableton or using a nice free VST. I can’t see much, so my assumption is that ‘laser noises’ are called something else in the world of proper production. Think Chemical Bros etc.

You just need something with snappy and fast envelopes and modulate the pitch (which can be done with LFO). This is all easily done in the stock synths Ableton has like Analog. I’d start there. Google ‘how to make risers in Ableton’ or something similar.

I’d show you myself but that will get you there quicker. Unless of course you’d truly like me to teach you how to produce… Hehe.

303abuser i need to stop looking at black friday sales. does anyone have experience with arturia’s pigments software? looks really interesting, especially with the modulation options, and it’s on sale for $90 CAD.

Meh. I don’t think it’s any better or worse than the Wavetable synth in Ableton. Mind you, I don’t have much love for wavetable synthesis.

Get the Softubes bundle Ia… Err, Amps. You’ll actually use those plugins and they’re really good quality. They don’t discount their stuff often and it’s all very good. Worth the price.
