Mild klang story: Last year this chap moved in next door with his family - nice chap - scouser - Everton fan. Bit of football chat, best pubs locally, restaurants.. ….usual thing. So anyway lockdown happened and i ordered some new decks and was on holiday when they finally arrived very delayed. 2 mins after arriving home knock on the door - its the scouser with a large box which he had kindly received - Pioneer on the outside. Asked me if I did a bit of DJing and I said a bit of this and that - bit of prog not expecting him to really understand - well no one ever does do they? . But he says he used to do a bit himself in the 90s - I said where was that - he said at Cream - I said "“what Cream in Liverpool” - he said yes - and in fact he had owned it with his brother and run it for years. Gulp! Turns out next door is James Barton who has a million stories of Oaky in the Courtyard and being the centre of the world for a few magical years. Tragedy is that he has binned all his records and decks - just does festivals now. So I am working on getting us all a JC slot at a festival on a tiny remote stage ……my wife laughs at me when I say this of course! The irony is that I only went to Cream once and can remember very little of the experience such were the priorities of the time!
