Mad_Cyril If only I had hair MC! Maybe I can fashion some sort of birds nest hat? Anyway, it’s my intention to survive the coming apocalypse in the lap of relative luxury, hence all the preparations. Trying to work out which trabs I’ll need is almost impossible. Physical and digital copies of Disk2 are already in the bag 👍

rhouses Books are an obsolete format.

Wait until the power goes off, see how you get on then 😆

Amps currently learning how to kill, skin and cook a human using only a blunt spoon and a Zippo. Will report back.

This is easier than it first appears.

What kind of prey?

Assume spiced-up street bums will be easier to catch, but yield stringy meat with little nutritional value?

Rich fat fucks?

    Mad_Cyril Rich fat fucks?

Absolutely. Apparently it’s no different to steak, you need the marbling.

Just finished The Crocodile Hunter by Gerald Seymour. Avoid.

Just started Hail Mary by Andy Weir. Awesome so far.

Got given a kindle paperwhite for Christmas. It’s brilliant. Love how you can change so many things on it. Especially like the amber light for night reading

Dubman oooh you got the latest one, I got the previous version. Friend was raving about the amber light. I change it to dark mode with the black pages and white font at night.

It’s wicked. It changes automatically between certain times of the day/night. I got so hacked off with buying books and the text was different sizes. Sometimes I’d have to wear my reading glasses. But not anymore.

Finished ‘To sleep in a sea of stars’ by Christopher Paolini - Meh.

Started ‘The City We Became’ by N.K.Jesmin - good so far but early days.

Hail Mary was decent, nearly done with Station Eleven now, pretty good. ESJM is a good writer.

Wally Agree on To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. Average at best.

The City We Became is my least favorite book by N.K. Jemisin. Yeah I’ll read the rest of the series as it comes out, but sheesh, what a let down compared to her earlier works.

About to start - Nina Simone’s Gum: A Memoir of Things Lost and Found.

            Hold tight for feedback!

JonQPublik Which book of hers would you recommend? Not read any of her stuf before. Don’t mind TCWB so far. Bit different from the sci fi stuff I usually read.

The Hidden Palace by Helene Wecker. Perfect follow-up to The Golem and the Jinni.

American Elsewhere by Robert Jackson Bennett. An utterly strange book that needs a limited series adaptation. Lots of it reminded me of early Twilight Zone stuff, moody and atmospheric.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix. Hilarious and gross, but still manages to have a lot of heart (yeah, I said it).

Remote Control by Nnedi Okorafor. I’ve enjoyed her Binti series, and this is also wonderful.

Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson. Very good. Typical Sanderson, but entertaining always.

The Wolf by Leo Carew. Fucking LOVED this. Gotta pick up The Spider.

Unreconciled by W. Michael Gear. Book 4 of The Donovan Series, which altogether is kinda wild west meets star trek. This book goes kinda David Karesh/Waco.

Glimmer by Marjorie B. Kellogg. Great premise, good plot, but the YA romance gets in the way.

Currently reading The Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. ⅔ in and loving it.

Wally The Fifth Season, book 1 in the Broken Earth series. It’s basically a gateway drug. Some parts are written in second tense, which makes for some difficulty. Read the Appendices first. It helps. I did, but still had to bounce back to it frequently for reminders.

The Inheritance trilogy an Dreamblood duology are both wonderful as well.

Finished Adventures In Wonderland: Acid House, Rave and the UK Club Explosion by Sheryl Garratt.
A decent read into the origins of dance music in nightclubs which goes right back to the early 70’s up untill acid house and the rise of the superclubs.
I didn’t enjoy it especially the rise of the Dj’s Frankie Knuckles & Larry Levan plus loads more. I did get bored towards the end but overall it was a good read.
Steven King - Billy Summers is next.

Been going through Ian M. Banks’ Culture-series. Bit amazing that as a scifi-fan I got to be this old before starting them. Great stuff.
