IMO yes. But just because it happens between chronologically between Wizard and Calla. Nothing in it is really needed for the last 3 books.

Wally The City We Became is my least favorite book by NKJ. Love her work, but book 2 is gonna have to scale some serious Empire Strikes Back mountains.

I finished my 100th book (in a 2 year period)on new years eve, but I’ve hit the buffers this year and I’ve only finished 3 so far.

Currently on Carson McCullers - The Member of the Wedding which is ok so far

@Homegrove I’ll always have a soft spot for King but his output this century isnt a patch on his early work IMO.

There have been some absolute stinkers in there - Bag of Bones, Lisey’s Story, Duma Key and the absolute worst (and maybe the worst book ever printed) Cell.

I find his portrayal of younger generations quite cringey (see ‘The Institute’ as an example) and he always seems to have the same types of characters in each of his books.

Saying that - I did read ‘Later’ last year and found that a welcome return to form

BTW - Tommyknockers was a weird book indeed, and deffo one of his worst

gcw of course no one’s old man game is as good as his young man game. Just saying they’ve been still enjoyable. Your stinker list is interesting, I didn’t like Lisey’s Story either, but it’s his favorite “modern” work. But I did like Duma Key (reread it last year) and Cell.

I think the only ones I havent read are the 2nd and 3rd of the Bill Hodges trilogy, Elevation and Billy Summers.

For what’s its worth - to contrast the stinker list - my favourites are The Stand, The Dark Tower series, The Dead Zone, The Long Walk and Pet Semetary. Whilst I enjoyed IT, I was always baffled at its success

pet semetary was the first of his books i read, i was maybe 13. i should probably read it again too, given that probably 75% of the references went over my head at the time.

303abuser I loved it as a kid. As an adult I agree with his wife, it’s too grim. BTW the monster in the woods on the way to the Micmac-cemetary was wendigo.

Homegrove lol that’s what i’m talking about, i don’t even remember a monster in the woods. my strongest memory is the kid getting hit by the truck. <- just in case someone doesn’t know the story and might read it.

JonQPublik many have tried. It’s never moved past the trying to write a script-phace. One of King’s best works, and he wrote it when he was under 20 years old.

Oh, and The Dead Zone movie with Christopher Walken is a great adaptation, imo.

they really need to do and extended dark tower series and not fuck it up. the ron howard idea from way back sounded great, whereas that movie they released was an abomination.

I only bought it on the back of him popping up on LBC talking about the Russian oligarchs. I’m only a few chapters in and it does seem more like a fictional story than a non fiction
