In fairness to Zack, not sure if you all fully appreciate how helpless this all feels. In California, we donât have enough House representation for our population percentage (the House was capped like 100 years ago). We have just two Senators. The Electoral College is also weighted against us. The entire system is rigged towards rural areas populated by complete dumbasses. People constantly talk about, âAmerica dumbâ and âwhy is America so backwardââŠ.itâs frustrating because we canât do anything about it (in any meaningful way) and this system will not change. Most of America is not dumb and not backward. Weâre simply stuck with minority rule.
This is why I stopped caring. Whatâs the fucking point. All in all, these national policy decisions donât really matter here. Weâll do what we want because the Right hates us here in San Francisco anyway. Why bother meeting in the middle when there isnât one. They can ban abortion nationally. Weâll still have clinics. They can ban pot. Weâll still have dispensaries. This country is too big and too diverse to govern so screw âem. Yeah, it sucks for well-meaning people in backward-leaning areas. But I canât do anything about them or that. I pay attention and work on local issues as those influence my life. What goes on in DC doesnât really have much influence on my life (at all). Iâm as happy today as I was two days ago. So, whatever, Clarence dude. Your bully pulpit can do one.
And, yeah, this is how much of the world is governed, but this isnât how it always was. Put it this way, was talking to my parents a few weeks back. They (well, my dad first) moved here 35 or whatever years ago. I asked them if theyâd do that same move today. Nope, they both said. This country is not the one they moved to anymore.
