Have had an EV for 18 months or so now. It’s fucking tremenballs.

Never ran out of juice and been all over the place, not that difficult to manage supply.

Hear the same bollocks from non EV owners all the time. Fucking bore off and go queue for your oil

Mad_Cyril Nearly 40k miles in mine now.

Saved about 5k in fuel which makes up for some of the depreciation. Got it just before Rishi got rid of the 3k allowance so it only cost me 37k. Bargain.

Think it also depends how tech savy you are and risk averse. My in laws are in their early 70s so the whole process of apps / accounts / different brands of chargers plus general range anxiety makes longer trips a chore . They have an MG ZS so no leveraging the Tesla network .

The issue with combustion engines is the fuel. It must surely need to be hydrogen. Tweak the engines and fuel tanks. It may involve more than a tweak but you get my drift, any auto designers who are reading this.

Electric cars and the heavy batteries and that grim shit they are made of ain’t going to work.

Can anyone share their experiences with the insurance renewal costs? I had an EV as a company car so was shielded from the main issues which is re-sale cost and insurance

Went up a bit, wasn’t enough to really notice if I’m honest.

Will be interesting to see if the trend continues.

My company (sole shareholder and director me) purchased the car outright. Insurance renewal is March but not massively different this year to last.

15k miles a year £485 March 2022, £553 March 2023

£0 excess. 1 no fault claim and a windscreen chip.

10 years no claims.

Getting around 270 miles on a full charge. Range isn’t a problem as long as you have a charger at home. The odd longer trip just needs a bit more planning.

Sounds like Reevesy is coming after EV drivers, it sort of makes sense to have an equivalent to fuel duty, but no doubt it will still be unpopular and further damage the transition to EV as per the ridiculous 2030 plan

Hursty She should but it should go back into improving the pitiful state of the UK road infrastructure. If everyone were to drive fuel tax free electric vehicles, the Treasury would miss out on £25bn in revenue.

Along_the_Wire the timescales are far too aggressive and the government are not listening to the car industry, they are woefully short of the targets and EVs will never gain the market share they anticipate
