The rapid chargers are £££ though. No drama waiting 15 mins and grabbing a coffee.

Getting a home charger here is going to be a bit of a faff beciause the meter and consumer unit are under the stairs. What used to be a garage through the wall is now a spare room so routing out a new 32amp cable is not going to be totally straightforward. Might future proof it somehow. The Mrs is insisting on it being bang tidy.

I like the idea of going electric but it’s the initial cost of it which puts most people off and I wouldn’t want to buy a second hand vehicle just incase the battery is worn out. To buy a new Vw transporter van is over 50k.

If you get a company car (I know vans already are deductible) it is fully deductible as 100% first year allowance and 0% BIK (going up to 1% soon). That is a no brainer. If I have 40k in my company account and I try and take that out for cash in the back pocket it is 19% corporation tax, 32.5% on the remaining amount as dividend tax.

It’s ridiculous that this is only available to company car drivers. If they switched the tax incentives to individuals rather than corporations then there would be much greater take up. Especially if they gave tax breaks on personal leases of electric cars.

It’s up to 20% for a van up to £8000 which is good but still unachievable for most self-employed especially in this climate.

The smoothness from a hybrid cvt is something else amazing for city driving, jumping back into a sluggish manual diesel was just torture.

Can only think EV will be another step up instant response and zero effort. Even the MG EV’s are doing 0-60 in mid 7’s for heavy SUV & Estate car unheard of unless you have a V6 under the hood.

140 miles to £5 electric what’s there to complain about just lease them and no fear of the range becoming shit after 6 years.

bosstrabs I am a huge petrol head but lets be real the production of electric cars and the batteries is hardly good for the environment over building say a 1 litre Toyota Aygo, carbon output per capita I pretty sure the Aygo would be less in its lifetime. Daily driving though hybrid and electric cars are great but I would also need something involving for the weekend.

Depends where you live, but for most of the western world EVs even with battery mining are better for the environment in their lifetime. Green energy is already cheaper than fossil fuels and continues to get cheaper, so even the countries lagging behind will catch up pretty quickly.

The other problem being that very few people are choosing to drive 1 litre Toyota Aygo style cars, in recent years the emissions from cars on the whole has gone up because so many dip shit thicket hammer smelling horror cunts are choosing to drive inefficient Trump wagon SUVs instead of normal cars.

My recent YouTube hole has been EV conversions… Something old, sharp lines, covered in chrome, and stanced to fuck, is probably where the Tesla shares will one day be going.

Amps Most of the mining happens in Aus is an issue. Hydrogen cars never took off but at least no batteries to worry about with them.

Last time I checked the UK was only 40% renewables still along way to go and we are kind of one of the leaders. China have over took US so really driving a EV in US isn’t really good for environment at all.

The blame is too focused on petrol cars when they are cleaner than diesel. More focus needs put on what heats your home when it comes to carbon imo.

Given that I was choosing between a 2 year old 335d or a new ev, I think I made the environmentally sound choice. Maybe less fun. But definitely the right choice
