baggers44 I can attest that the XDJ-1000 MK2 is a dece alternative. Found it pretty easy moving from them to 2000NSX2, so can imagine 3000s would be a similar step.

Can you play straight off memory stick. Do they do onboard bpm and key analysis?

CDJ-3000 with 2023 on firmware update, yes

XDJ-AZ and Omnis Duo and Opus Quad - I believe yes but I haven’t tried.

You really want to be just running them through rekordbox though and exporting them for peace of mind.

I have a dedicated Denon USB stick with everything on it, exported using Denon Engine (or DECU software I’ve bought which converts rekordbox, to denon, and back)

Saves worrying about anything not working and Denon defo works reliably with dedicated denon exports too (it is unreliable with rekordbox sticks on longer sets and the denon systems can restart themselves mid set)

Not up for fucking about to be honest, don’t use cue points find it tedious to say the least.

If it can ingest a WAV and show me the name / key / BPM, that’s all I need.

Can those you mentioned do that?

@Homegrove am I right in thinking you have a Zoom recorder?

If so, when you’re doing your 3hr+ mixes, how do you stop it splitting the recording up into multiple files?

I was having a spin last night and was getting on for 4hrs, but I noticed it stopped the first recording just after 3hrs and started a new one (noticed the new time stamp on recorder).

Think it’s got something to do with file sizes compared to card size?

For reference I was using a 32gb SD card and I normally delete old recordings once I’ve uploaded.

ScottBailey nope, I have a Tascam and it does the same. There’s no way to change it, lossless formats have the maximum length. I just put the parts together in Soundforge later, not a big bother. Mp3 you can record 15 hours on one take.

Homegrove tascam dr40-x by any chance? I’m thinking of getting back into the fray with a denon sc live 4 which doesn’t allow recording internally with streamed tracks due to copyright so would need to use booth out into a recorder and the tascam gets well reviewed. Didn’t realise there was a cut off on lossless track length. Bummer.

Millsy Tascam DR-1. I’ve had it since 2009 and still going strong. Battery’s been pretty much dead for a decade now, so I’ll need to have it plugged in. Haven’t bothered to buy a new battery to it, I’m sure it would be easy.

IndustryStandard yeah, considering that too but would also need to buy some active monitors as the ones I have are khazi, so pushes price up even more. If I see one on eBay I might go for it. I quite like the all in one nature of the sc live including speakers. Easy to put away and pull out whenever I fancy a mix, plus it has bags of functionality like the prime series but just doesn’t do stems like the plus.

mono-stereo already have a Behringer UCA222 and to be honest I just find the portable recorder easier to use and the sound quality to be better

mono-stereo it works well but sometimes tascam / zoom handhelds are a little handier at gigs and in some rooms on All In Ones (space)
