The whole Vinyl thing is a pain in the arse
The expense. The storage. The ability to damage your own music. It not travelling well. A friends basement flooded and he lost over half his collection (around 1500)
Yet I find myself really appreciating it, that sense of tradition or heritage around DJing is really symbolised by that - and those who can keep the mixes tight are more skilled in some senses because more can go wrong and you can seriously lose the talented edge of it by not playing for just 2 months.
When I first went to clubs it was right when CDJs started coming in and many DJs then still just played vinyl
At promise in foundation to the left and right of the DJ booth were some projections of an angle above the Dj where you could see down over the turntables spinning / tone arm connected and seeing that made me feel like I knew where the music was physically coming from - I don’t know if anyone knows what I mean but at the time I wasn’t interested in DJing I just felt something about that and also the sense of motion
You gain a lot in modern hardware but that feeling, whatever it is, doesn’t seem to come through.
I actually long for a great moving platter CDJ like the SC6000m
If I won the lottery I may genuinely start a collection and get a rotary
