DJ setups/Mixer porn/New toys thread...
…can’t remember tbh, I had a Rane MP2016 & XP EQ expansion imported from the US, proper Friday afternoon job, build quality was terrible, traded it in at West End DJ because I knew a lad that worked there- Rane didn’t have an importer and they were rare as shit at the time. They were happy to move the V6 on as it was the most expensive mixer on the market by a mile and had had it in stock for ages.
I got the isolator and crossfader units and the full 6-valve upgrade all on deals because they couldn’t shift them not long after. I’ve pics somewhere, will try and dig ’em out.
Not sure how you’d go about actually using it unless you gave a dj booth in your house
mono-stereo And goggles, would definitely need goggles
Just saw one for sale for 16k…
…lots of chancers out there mate. People trying to flog rotary Vestax for £2k, it’s mental.
Mate sold his Rane MP2016 along with the equ in pristine condition and got 2000€ for it. I would have asked for more. I would have also bought it, as it’s my favorite mixer I’ve ever played in a club, but the setting (not table top) would have required me to build my home set up all over again. And also didn’t have 2k kicking about at the time. My wife would probably not hugged me for taking it from the house account either.
“It’s something we can both enjoy! And will bring the value of the house up!”
…mine was an absolute dog, lots of power/grounding issues, but I have also enjoyed playing on them in clubs in the past and my MP2015 was great.
NasserAlazzawi will give that a whirl ….thing is the older i get the more i want authenticity in the mix with a bit of old slightly off beat/nudge thing, a bit of a key clash or a rush of volume from the oncoming track . …with the technology these days i could just Mix in Key the whole thing in Cm and Am - stick to 124 bpm and read my book by literally mixing on the waveform visuals - there has to be more to life than this!

I know what you mean here. By the time I learned from 2013 onwards there was an internet full of lots of experienced opinion and a laptop / used CDJ DJ market I didn’t realise had exploded, but in the early 2000s hardly anyone was a DJ and even in the advent of CDJs, the DJs I saw mostly played on Vinyl so its you, your brain and your ears.
That’s why DJs we looked up to, many of them made these ‘mistakes’ occasionally - and you’d be almost non the wiser having the best night anyway.
When I make mistakes I try to remember the above and carry on. Sure, some DJs will notice, but the crowd just doesn’t care and wants you to move forward as you were.
You can get away with most things except for hitting the wrong Cue button (whheeeeEEEYYYYY!)
NasserAlazzawi I thought you were just showboatin
Mad_Cyril I’m a tugboat, baby.
I did an edit on Rekordbox, and liked doing it so might get Ableton. It’s dead easy on the 15 € subscription-version of Rekordbox, you can do simple cut and pastes and keep everything in grid, but I hate the subscription-thing. Also might want to add some beats or something at some point. I trust Intro is enough for editing, and maybe doing the odd mix down the line?
…yeah, should be OK for that, there are enough audio effects to enable some basic edits of tracks.
You might find you outgrow it quite quickly though.
Has anyone else noticed the strange hot cue behaviour on CDJ-3000s?
(pressing Hot Cue A on your new track, takes you to the Hot Cue on the previous track)
I’ve found out the reason / fix if anyone would like to know.
…not noticed that, but not a massive hot cue guy.
Does it default to that if you haven’t set a hot cue in that slot?
Lol it’s just another addiction, worse than records were for me.
303abuser Currently mine is camera lenses but I know this rabbit hole isn’t dissimilar!
NasserAlazzawi Yeah it applies to most tech hobbies I assume. I’m trying to be judicious with my purchases, but it never ends.
303abuser Bikes, DJ equipment, tech and massive Sammys are definitely taking their toll.
Along_the_Wire It was definitely easier when all you needed was two 1200s and a mixer. Now it’s this compressor colours sound differently and that eq introduces too much low end phasing.
Playing tomorrow with Denon-players, so googled playlist-transfer again. I can’t remember for sure, but I tried library-transfer in November, and I don’t remember it being this easy, nevermind exporting hot cues and loops. Tried it and it works.

Just today told a story of when I was doing a 4 hour set here in Turku at an afterparty sometime in 2003, all vinyl. I didn’t yet live in the city, and spent the night at my sister’s couch, then woke up at 4 AM and started hauling two big bags of records three kilometres to the city center for my 5 AM start time. Half way point was the Aura river and I nearly chugged the bags there and went back to the couch. All because I was too cheap to get a taxi. Eventually got to the venue with five minutes to spare, played the gig, it was OK, and suddenly found funds to get a cab back.
Vinyl, never again outside of home.
Homegrove Hahaha I have the exact reverse story. Was supposed to play at 11, go get hammered at 7 with my record bag (I’ll say it was at least 30 lbs, I have no idea, it was just heavy), show up at 1045 and the doors to the club are locked. Go around back and the kitchen guy is smoking by the stairs, said the cops showed up and shut it down. So we smoke a joint with him, then proceed to walk for an hour and a half, carrying my records. I couldn’t lift my right arm for 3 days and had marks on my shoulder for a week.
I love that you actually played after, I couldn’t have done it.
