More logical than Radius! Mate’s got one, been meaning to go give it a try for ages, but he’s vinyl only, and I a) don’t want to drag my players to his home, or b) go through my vinyl and pack a bag.

Guess habits a big factor, your view is because you are used to a different approach
The Radius has actually taught me some basic principles. Balancing the filters and the pots just works.
I’d have spent years pissing about with extra eq’s before I figured it out. Also stops you trying to mash tracks that are really in complimentary.
So much easier to do with only 2 knobs to play with
Deadly fair play mate, looks a excellent mixer, think at some point I’ll buy a radius 2 they look such a good mixer
…very nice, although going from one to the other I’d miss the simplicity of mixing with the HPF.
I guess in an ideal world, you’d have both (like the Rane MP2015), but given a binary choice, I’d go HPF > EQ tbh.
…only time I ever really touch an EQ is if a track is so poorly mixed/recorded it needs tweaking in some way (happens rarely these days).
For me when mixing, the subtractive nature of the HPF and a little boost of channel fader is really all I need.
Different techniques man, I use the equ aggressively, and if there is no high pass filter I miss it.
Mad_Cyril Interested in what extra flexability you get from this new mixer compaired to your old?
Unbroken1 I can’t seem to work with the filter. One for retirement when I’ve loads of time - I like the the aggressiveness of EQs live too.

In the two times I play out a year
Sometimes feel, because the HPF is linear / sequential, that I get stuck or struggle to transition and end up rushing it.
Theory is the 3 band gives me more routes in and out of a mix.
Probably all bollocks and there’ll be up a 2v up for sale later this year!
Mad_Cyril Gotcha. Be intrested to know how you get on with it.
…honestly feel that EQ’s are more complex/superfluous than an HPF!
What’s the main thing people do with an EQ on a mixer? I’d say its to roll-off the bass, + maybe some mids to accommodate the bottom end of the incoming track. That’s EXACTLY what the HPF does, only using one knob as opposed to 3 (or 4). Obviously all HPF’s are not the same, but the MasterSounds like the V6 before it (and the MP2015 with the resonance setting right down) all have filters that are optimised for that exact purpose.
That all said though, I only really use the filter subtractively, so if you are wildly pushing frequencies for dramatic effect, maybe those are better for you. As Hannu suggests, horses for courses and entirely dependent on mixing technique.

And deep down, I think you’re right.
I struggled, with a controller with a 3 band eq, to get the concept of mixing two tracks. There was too much going on for me to self teach myself. Using the Radius 2 has effectively taught me to listen more and simplified things for me. I really love my Radius 2.
The problem is I can’t help but think that, now I have some fundamentals, a 3 band eq might be a logical next step. Curiosity has been eating away for months.
The cash has effectively made the decision for me, its try now or never, so I’m giving it a whirl. Likelihood is that it’ll end up getting sold on and put to a clarity audio. Either that or surrounded by pot plants and some vinyl for Instagram pics!!
