Morty-C-137 Think it’s great with the mobile speakers too, but just too lumpy. How annoying would the Bluetooth music thing be when other people find out when you’re DJing. At least I can just tell people no, I don’t have that instead of what would then be, no it’s shit.

Gear Gods, please could I get your advice?

I’m mulling getting back into DJing (we all need a midlife crisis project) and I figure that if I’m ever going to play in a bar/club again then the mad skillzzz I’ve honed on my trusty Traktor S2 aren’t going to be much help when confronted by a bunch of alien buttons and knobs on Pioneer’s CDJs and mixers.

So presuming most places have CDJs and a DJM, does this all-in-one unit usefully mirror that functionality?

(I initially thought I’d spring for CDJ3000s and a mixer but quickly baulked at the £6.5K ticket tbh).

Is there a free version of Rekordbox anymore? Just a basic version I can get to read my Apple Music libary/locally stored music and export to USB/play from laptop if plugged into a XDJ?

Mates bday in Portugal im DJing at but the other DJs want to use Rekordbox. Im a Denon Prime / USB guy. Havent used Rekorkbox since I sold my CDJ900s ages ago.

What XDJ setup would you recommend for 2 DJs either paying back to back or switching over? Im DJing at a mates 50th in Portugal with some others and think they will be using a laptop/rekordbox rather than USBs. Can you plug two laptops into any XDJ and hot switch, or would you need to use USB for that?

If one person is using his laptop and finishing a set, how do you switch over without any issues? The next person would have to use a USB stick ?

IndustryStandard you don’t know the set-up yet? You can have a laptop with Rekordbox and switch to USB stick for sure, but don’t know if you can switch without one shutting off. Can check tomorrow for you? The RX3 and the XZ has two USB slots too which I’m certain you switch between - can confirm for sure again tomorrow.

Edit - two USB slots work independently. If it’s a 4 channel XDJ, you can have the laptop on two decks and the USB on the others. That’s from Pioneer website, but can check properly tomorrow

Worst case is you upload your USB to Rekordbox on the laptop anyway and just set up a playlist

Thx. Know you can use two USBs with two libraries and flip between them, but not sure if you can do the same with 1 USB stick and 1 Laptop connected or 2 x laptops connected.

Box of 12s was a lot easier, but a bugger to get on the plane!

Im hiring something and the XZ is only a few EURs more that the RX, so that could be a safer option. Two laptops attached with me/him on two chanels each

IndustryStandard XZ all day long - feela the same as CDJ2000s - the RX is Mickey Mouse. XZ is four channels too

IndustryStandard I got it to work with two USBs - I’ve only got one laptop, so couldn’t test that, but found this:

I tried a laptop and a USB, but was struggling - looks like there are settings that will work. Let me know if that’s what you want to do and I’ll do some more testing.

Think laptop and usb is the most likely setup. The guy im playing with is a pure laptop/controller guy so wont be going near a USB stick

I have a few parties to do in July. Mates 50th where I will be required to play some shockers/dad music, so looking into what options I have. I have a pretty eclectic digital library built up over the years, but need to get some additional mainstream stuff.

Was looking at Tidal to link in with my Denon SC5000s. Anyone with experience using Tidal with these players? Also, looks like its £20 quid a month with the DJ add on. Quite lumpy but I suppose I can so a trial for 1 month, get a good collection/playlist sorted and worst case scenario pay one extra month - then cancel.

Any other options on the steaming side? Id rather use Traktor if im honest rather than lugging around by CDJs/Mixer, but looks like Traktor only has Beatport integration. Not sure how many Girls Aloud tracks are on there…….

IndustryStandard I’ve been very happy to use the Tidal-integration on my Sad Boy Music Club-gigs, but I’ve used it with Rekordbox DJ. No issues whatsoever though. I did try it once with a Denon-player, and it worked well too, but that was a few years ago. I doubt it’s gone worse in the mean time.

IndustryStandard You can download the tunes from Apple Music and then import a playlist into Rekordbox. I’ve only had to do that once at a mate’s wake, otherwise, I’d just turn whoever down!

Absolutely perfect, retains key & BPM analysis, cue points, etc. Can edit beat grids, keeps them too.

Probably loads of other shit but I’m not massively into ‘prepping’ if I’m honest!

Cheers sir. Seems like the best option for £20 quid. Has Tidal got basically the same selection of music as Apple/Amazon, or are there big holes in the selection due to missing labels? Presume Tidal has all the basic popular artists/party stuff
