Dan Voodoo, another club on my doorstep with amazing line ups that I took for granted. Saw a lot of people in there over the years and probably missed just as many because, well, it’ll always be there and there’s always next week…

Just dug out some old flyers I stumbled upon and was around 98 - looks like venue was Redzone on Duke St

Serious techno - pretty sure saw Steve Bicknell, possibly Billy Nasty

bosstrabs sorry but I disagree. Saying “the top Dj and trend setter in club music wouldn’t play this moldy oldie” is hardly controversial. Leftism is a bit like Neal Diamond’s Sweet Caroline. It has a time and a place. Long in the tooth professionals love it on a warm summer weekend. Nothing wrong with that.

Mainly, but also a few other spots over the years, The Advent at The Parrot and Mills at the Mardi Gras are a couple I remember. Bateau was it’s home though, the definition of a dark and dingy little nightclub.

Weatherall at the first Festival No 6 was one of the finest sets I’ve ever heard - he was fucking brilliant.

Glad I got to see him in Carcassonne - he did his classic finish with the Holmes / Beatless Remixes of Smokebelch II - there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

To be honest I wish, when I’d seen ‘the top DJ and trend setter in club music’ Ben Klock play to a room of 30 people in Beijing (the same night 1000+ were crammed into GT Banana for Paul van Dyk), that I’d asked him “Ben, under any circumstances would you ever play Leftfield?” and recorded the answer for posterity.

bosstrabs Fair cop! Hearing PvD follow for an angel with his mix of Binary Finary in 1998 was probably the closest I have come to having an out of body experience in a club! The ecstacy was also so good back then
