Hursty They are switching 3G off soon are they not? Just checked and Vodafone turned their 2G and 3G off earlier in the year
Millsy Is Benson some sort of Donnie Darko style mystic time traveller? Must be all the access to ket.
Wasily benson I have an iPhone 15 and am on Vodafone. I spend A LOT of time on 2G (EDGE) which is a massive pain in the arse. This is probably because Vodafone has a strong 2G network and so preferentially connects to that rather than a weaker >=4G network. So I found out you can disable 2G on the phone by putting it into lockdown mode. There is no other way to do it on an iPhone. FFS its 2024 and I spend 50% of my drive to work on 2g. Can’t you just do this?
Smallman1 According to Hursty, Vodafone switched off their 2g earlier this year. More lies from Benson?!
Hursty https://www.vodafone.co.uk/help-and-information/3g-switch-off Well weirdly they turned 3G off but kept 2G for some reason I guess it’s something to do with backup comms as many legacy infra uses the old 2g bearers like smart meters etc and of course Benson
Mad_Cyril Hursty 2G prevents AIDS Hursty, therefore can’t be turned off whilst Mark Fowler is still alive.
Mad_Cyril Benners usually has lackeys so the menial shit for him. His small phillipino boy-servant is off doing LOUNGE research. Give the man a break
benson I DID MY RESEARCH! Or rather I found somebodt that did theirs. Benson is not tooting. By that I mean the village of Benson which I drive through to get to work. Out here EDGE is the best we have at times. Proper 2G. It took me ages to figure this out, trawling through Reddit and various forums. It’s due to the signal thresholds that Vodafone have set. For example of a 5G signal is very weak the phone will switch down to 4G if the 4G signal is stronger. If a 4G signal is below a certain level then the phone will switch to 3G - but now there’s no 3G… So it goes to 2G as there is usually a strong (stronger) 2G signal around. On an Android phone, go to settings -> Network & Internet -> SIMs -> Vodafone. Scroll to the bottom of the page and turn off the, ‘Allow 2G’ option. Now your phone won’t have 2G as an option and will therefore cling into 4G for longer. I did this and all my signal problems are gone. It’s not Vodafone’s coverage that’s the problem, it’s Vodafone not updating the device profiles - they could literally fix this overnight but they haven’t even acknowledged it.
Hursty I reckon Benson aught to be careful using legacy tech, look what’s happened to those rocking pagers in Lebanon!
Amps New Samsung here. Do phones seem to be getting heavier? Or am I wasting away from the lack of gym action. Must be all the bongo films I copied over.
Hursty No idea, just picked up the new iPhone 16e, does the trick for me, plenty of battery life and relatively small size
