Didn’t bother with Joshua Brookes in the end. The PTSD from seeing Nick Warren there last year still burns. Decided to call it a day, get a subway and stuff my face instead. Thinking I made the right choice this morning. Currently on the train back to Leeds and the Mrs seems happy she can palm our son and his footy class back off onto me so probs saved myself an ear bashing later lol.
A few years back, I went to see Sasha at ‘The Church’ in Leeds which (amazingly) is a modifed church. It was one of the worst nights out I ever had with the only redeeming feature being Sasha’s set. Shite crowd, venue, sound system, the lot so had a bit of trepidation going to Manc Cathedral for a rave up.
In a way yesterday was the mirror image of that. Cracking crowd (decent doris to blokes ratio too - 55:45 ish), venue was cool, sound system was decent enough for an on the fly job (although definitely had it’s sweet spots) but Sasha played far too many tunes from that Glastonbury set. At least 8 in roughly the same order I reckon so kinda let it down. I dunno what’s going through his head when he knows he’s put the set out there. I know he’s renonwned for over hammering tracks but this took it to a new level. Longer it went on, the more of a let down it became really. Add an hour of your standard Sasha warm up to that Glastonbury set, chuck in a few new bangers and you’d not be far off last night at all. I’m sure he’ll be mint at Fabric in Sept doing an all nighter as he usually is but I think I’m done with going to see these 3 hour sets.
Still, had a good crack seeing some familiar faces and it was a good laugh. Parry played a good start up set. Loads of synthy tunes which sounded grand so overall glad I went over.
