alistair That Debbie Gibson track exemplifies the art of the remix. Just takes tiny snippets of the original and turn it into something completely different and the result is spectacular
Unbroken1 Dubman …tbh, I remember that album getting a very tepid reception when it came out. Everyone expecting house bangers and it was all jazzy arrangements of soul standards. I reckon its aged a lot better than many of the ‘dance’ albums of the time tho
alistair Unbroken1 Really like the album. The live instrumentation of their tracks leaves them ageless. Having their pick of world class singers helps. Black Gold of the Sun is lush.
Unbroken1 …4Hero mix is boss No real compulsion to go back to the album as it was so relentlessly cained at the time, as I said, many many less memorable dance albums from that era tho.
Unbroken1 …also reminded myself that if it weren’t for the album we wouldn’t have had this, probably my absolute favourite d&b track ever
jonattonyeah Unbroken1 Loved Roni Size when he was at his best. The Reprazent live shows were incredible. I’m speaking like he’s dead. He’s not.
Dan Just remember doing doves one night and they finished the night with their St Etienne remix. Superb.
Homegrove alistair the one and only Bedrock I’ve attended (19th birthday) was a laugh. About 10 women in XOYO.
zackster alistair very NY house. OG gangster types with their young GFs. All dressed up, with the bling. The pimped out cars out front, bottle service on the inside ex ex. More of a hip hop night vibe in many ways.
alistair zackster I have heard that. It’s the opposite in the UK. The house nights have a pretty friendly vibe. My wife only does the funky, housey stuff so I’d go to those nights with her and her mates and then I’d do the faster harder music with my brother and other mates.
zackster jonattonyeah was listening to that the other day. Think it was the first authentic piece of electronic music I purchased.
zackster jonattonyeah Roni Size Speaking of, MAW did a remix package of Dj Krust, of Roni Size fame, this past fall that was crazy good. My wife got me the record for my birthday. Very good dub vibes.
jonattonyeah Homegrove Miguel Migs Excellent era for SF House. Migs, Mark Farina, the West Coast thing with Halo/H-Foundation, DJ Dan, Jeno… Still think this is a corker not to get the thread off topic…. A good night out 7 days a week if you knew where to look. Good memories.
zackster I wouldn’t say they weren’t friendly, just that it was very like urban upscale, if they makes sense.
