Old-Dutch can you see trees from your windows? Is there a ballet school and a Waitrose within walking distance? If not, move.

There’s a Waitrose. And a ballet school, but I’m not allowed near it

mono-stereo I’ve been bit more times than I can count, both in a suit and not. That’s a fucking nightmare. It’s really difficult to understand how much that shit hurts and the damage a dog can inflict.

alistair Breed bans don’t work. Ban bullies, people will just move on to rotties or shepherds or dobermans. The solution as I see it is certifying trainers and forcing large breed and working dog owners to keep up behavioural standards. Give the trainers the ability to stop people from owning powerful breeds. The one problem with that is most trainers are terrible and can’t handle some of these dogs themselves.

Apparently vets are refusing to see the XLs. I heard a stat that 75% of dog deaths in the UK over the last 3 years are all XLs

Old-Dutch I feel for vets. At least I can use a variety of safety equipment and control space when I need to, they have to get up close and personal.

Homegrove Well this is disappointing. In regards to Mila. Ashton I get it.

I don’t know who the accused is or any details of the case, but what if he’s innocent? Should the woman still want him thrown in jail anyway cos “feminism”?

303abuser There should be tougher penalties for irresponsible owners, restrictions on dog breeders and a ban on XLs. The statistics are overwhelming. These brutes are too big and too aggressive to be family pets.

Heard someone on the radio today saying that if you see someone getting attacked by XL or similar bread they should try and hold their head to stop them shaking it or try and poke something up there ass to stop the dog.
I got quite badly bitten by our family dog. He was an old English sheepdog cross Standard poodle. He was a big dog. He would’ve been about 15 years old and I knelt down beside him and gave him a cuddle but I squeezed him to hard and he turned and bit my forehead. I had a big chunk of flesh hanging down. I spent the night in hospital but luckily they managed to Stitch it back.

alistair The root of the problem is irresponsible people and I think that’s the only way to deal with it. If you start banning breeds, where do you draw the line? Size doesn’t work, as your average Irish wolfhound as an example, is as gentle as a dog is going to be, while dachshunds and border collies bite like crazy. If you start banning breeds, define the line for me. I have a Doberman and she’s a softer dog than any of the schnauzers I’ve had.

Practically speaking, it’s very difficult to do. Part of the issue is separating the frequency of bites vs. the outcomes. No one cares if a 4 lb chihuahua clips their ankles all day long, but if a mastiff does that, you lose part of your leg. Same behaviour, different outcomes.

That’s why I’m in favour of “certifying” owners in some way, with regular check ins to make sure their maintaining a behavioural standard. The problem is that is expensive (although if it’s passed straight to the owner and the rules are actually enforced, maybe that’s a good deterrent) and, in my experience, there are a dozen awful and unqualified trainers for every decent one.

All true, but not realistic. A lot of the owners of these dogs are hardly going to spend the time or effort in engaging with anything like this.

Old-Dutch Yeah, enforcement and legislation is the expensive part. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about it and I just don’t see a simple solution to the problem. People are stupid, irresponsible, and selfish.

Better not letting them have these dogs in the first place.

Plenty of others to choose from

Old-Dutch I sort of don’t disagree, but where do you draw that line? It’s almost impossible to do, unless you’re just going to say no one can own a dog over 25 lbs (or some other arbitrary number). Even with something like that, how do you enforce that for a farmer with a Great Pyrenees or other large guardian dog with an actual job?

              • Amps replied to this.

Has some internet Einstein suggested mandatory teeth removal yet?

A thug’s appendage with their cropped ears. Bred to be aggressive and a walking menace . How many toddlers have to get killed or maimed before they are banned.

Maybe we should take the American approach and the solution is for everyone to get more XL Bully dogs to counter to bad XL Bully dogs?

Me Julie’s got a sausage dog, right yappy fucker.
