Good thread on the whole ‘plant trees’ thing (preview is only showing the end of it for some reason, the top bit is the more interesting bit):

This sort of shit really pisses me off. I never have any qualms about putting waste into UK landfill, in fact I prefer it. If we can’t recycle our own shit in our own country then it should be buried here. We should not send it half way around the world to then be dumped there.

All because its ‘cheaper’ to do it no doubt, never mind the CO2 cost of transporting our shit around the world and not being disposed of properly.

It is really shit. What’s the point of people attempting to recycle at home if it goes and gets dumped and burned anyway.
Countries that ship of their recycling to other countries should be 100% responsible to ensure it’s been dealt with properly.

We recycle as much as we can. If you look at all the stuff you think should be recycled it can’t be for some reason. Sometimes it says maybe recycled. It’s also down your local authorities as to whether or not they’ve got the facilities to do it. The manufacturers need to up there game massively also. But as ever it’s always comes down to cost.

Hursty The Turks are happy to burn plastic for about 70% of developed nations apparently. All Erdogan’s doing of course as its a little money earner and those fuckin apes in power care not for their own environment/country.

There is fuck all in the way of industrial recycling plants in Britain… which is mad. In a post Brexit distopia, it would be a great new industry… oh wait, Brits dont want to do menial jobs anymore, thats why we had loads of foreigners in our agricultural industry. Oh well, plastic recycling is bullshit anyway, any use of plastic products will see them brake down, get into the water system, get into your body, where they act like oestrogen, and ultimately make the entire planet impotent. Buy alternate products instead. I’m off to boil my head.

Hursty All because its ‘cheaper’ to do it

I’ve heard we’re paying in crypto. So not cheaper, but absolutely free

Mad_Cyril 😂 The Turks do love crypto even though they are trying to ‘ban’ it

Amps Controlled burning of the land DOES have its uses….especially here in California, where it can prevent wildfires from going completely off the rails. By burning old growth/dry tinder, it helps to keep the fires from spreading.

In other areas, controlled burns also help replenish the soil. In the midwest, when a field has been overworked/overgrazed, farmers will do a controlled burn as well, so that when new growth does come in, it’s healthier and stronger.

Controlled burns were a part of California’s ecology for centuries. But then people decided they wanted fancy houses in the forest and didn’t want to deal with smokey air for a week or so. Now we get infernos. Yay! September, if not sooner, is going to be shit this year, Kels.
jonattonyeah Ugh….I know 🤦🏼‍♀️ Not looking forward to that at all. It wasn’t as bad here in the south last year, but I don’t have high hopes for this year. We’ve already seen a number of fires. 😬

Yeah, thats what he is talking about, burning for better grazing, and it can fuck off. So much of Britain is a mono culture due to sheep grazing and grouse moors, it’s crap.
The Giant Sequoias also need fires to release the seeds from their cones. Speaking of those, absolutely incredible trees. 9 meters around, 75 meters tall, 3,000 years old. I never thought I’d be impressed by a tree. But you do you, tree. Way to contribute to this country.

Amps Ah ok! I read that wrong I guess. I thought he was denigrating it lol
I think you’ll find the GREAT BRITISH countryside is the most beautiful in the world Amps.
Smallman1 For the most, I would agree with you, but when you realise it looks fuck all like it should due to farming and industry, you you start to see it otherwise.

I spent an inordinate amount of time reading about what would happen if we blew the moon up (just for hilarity). It wouldn’t end well so I doubt moving it around would do much good either.

Didn’t your lot want to nuke it back in the 50s? Then again, you talked about invading Britain days after VE day, so, yeah, you probably did want to nuke something 😆

I don’t consider anything before 1993 to be my responsibility when it comes to America. I was lowering your collective intelligence from 1981-1992.
Would love to see a sequoia up close. Incredible trees.
Smallman1 Much as I love many rural parts of the UK, I’ve seen far more beautiful countryside on my travels. The first time I drove into the Franschhoek valley near Stellenbosch, it properly took my breath away…

I looked into camping at Yellowstone a few years back, it’s like trying to get a Glastonbury ticket. Fair play to them for keeping the numbers to a minimum. Defo on the to do list at some point.

Shocking. I spoke with a mate yesterday who was saying climate change isn’t as bad as the “hippies” say and that carbon figures have been going down year on year. It’s savage ignorance on a scale I can’t quite fathom when dealing with people like that..
