A game is absolutely needed when performing for a bunch of blokes loaded with butties and stella.

Didnt he write hits for a multitide of artists also? He was basically a pocket sized rock of base speed.

LT42 oh yeah. He wrote for The Time, Madonna, Stevie Nicks, Chaka Kahn…. Manic Monday is the one that is often brought up, but he wrote a shit load of other major hits. All at like the hight of his career too. I forget which one it was, but the artist said he called them and was like “I wrote something for you”… Think it was Love Song for Moadonna, but IDK.

edit that was Manic Monday. Called up the Bengals and said he was obsessed with their music and wrote a song for them.

zackster Mad buzzer and shows a really kind side to his character too. A genuine artist in the same bracket as Bowie. Theyre in short supply these days.

        LT42 Bowie

he is one of the only people that comes to mind when I think of someone like Prince, for sure.

coming up with the 5 best prince records is pretty impossible. i’m a big fan of his early stuff, so i’ll lean that way, in no particular order.

        1. pop life
        2. i feel for you
        3. why you wanna treat me so bad?
        4. when you were mine
        5. i wanna be your lover

honorable mentions to uptown, controversy, and i would die for you. the volume and quality of his output was nothing short of incredible.

303abuser might have been lockdown getting to me, but one of our few indoor gettogethers last summer was for the 4th of July. We ended up watching it and having a total blast.

zackster amazing album. Couldn’t he play some stupid amount of instruments too? Just picked them up, got the basics and then proceeded to jam like he had played it all his life. A major talent.

Can’t have a Prince thread without the Charlie Murphy story

              Purple Rain
              Sign of the Times
              Dirty Mind
              Parade
              1999

              The Beautiful ones
              Erotic City
              Controvery
              Pop Life
              Sign of the Times

Millsy yeah he played like sax, keys, drums, guitar and probably more shit too. I think it’s super respectable that he was such a beast guitar player, yet rarely featured massive solos on his albums. Like, compare that to someone like Eddie Van Halen, who I also love, but he quickly turned all of their output into “listen to me jam”.

zackster i haven’t seen it in at least 20 years, but i don’t remember enjoying it. maybe i’ll give it another go when i’m bored.

add 17 days to the list, that’s a great track too.

edit: the piano in this version …

A top 5 singles list is ridiculously difficult to compile. When you are omitting tracks like Purple Rain, Little Red Corvette and When Doves Cry, you know you have got a problem

                alistair When Doves Cry

Difficult to nail down, but probably my fav Prince track.

Can we get a fucking trisco-bantz vax already? Beyond needed around here.

Just popped into my head that Prince talked about Ed Sheeran sucking his autobiography. Yet another awesome thing. Well worth a read for any interested.

zackster definitely one of the best albums of all time. All killer no filler. Even peak MJ albums had one or two bum tracks

Fucking love this track, so euphoric, sleazy and with a chorus/guitar solo to die for

Remember passing my driving test the week Diamonds and Pearls came out and playing the Cream and Get Off at full volume back from the pub.

Seen him twice, he was excellent, once in London was quality, then Malihide castle in Dublin was one of the best of gigs I was ever at, hit after hit, friend of a friend was the promoter and I got talking to him he was telling me 10 mins before it he was refusing to go on proper diva shit then stormed out and absolute nailed it

zackster I assume auto-correct was pining for some NFL action but it was THE BANGELS, featuring the hottest lead singer the world has ever seen.

Indeed. 62, still hot and married to the director of Austin Powers

She will always be my eternal flame 😂

Are they are cover band for the bangles? First rule of spelling correction club…

                  She was/is an absolute honey…

Millsy funnily enough he’s rumoured to have made an acid house album which is hidden in his vault somewhere……
