Dan absolutely. Having tried to recreate it since, it was the first time I really realised that most (if not all) the GU’s were studio mixed, as it’s impossible to do on vinyl without a loop. Guess I was either naive, or in denial to thinking they were all live mixes “based on a GU show”.

Wally Not at all. The first mix on CD1 beats anything on CD2. Kinda goes on from there with great key changes and atmospheric building with the mixes.

The only ‘adventurous’ mix of CD2 is NYFM into Persuasion.

hugopal no, it’s just the dub mix. Most of the download sites only have the vocal version, but I did manage to find it somewhere

hugopal Disc 2 of HK probably has the smoothest flow of any GU Disc.

“Probably” is key here as the answer is, it doesn’t. That award has already been handed out and spoken about for centuries since, and thats CD1 of Sydney.

Both disks of Hong Kong are incredible IMO. Brilliantly aggressive .

Amhran in the 7th Phase (Ferr’s Subliminal recut) has to be one of the most wonderfully hypnotic pieces of trance ive ever heard.

The Sphere track from Hong Kong reminds of Renaissance at the Cross. Boss track.

Dan Brancaccio & Aisher remix for me. Sounded great on one of my favourite “live” essential mixes of all time, Chris Fortier @ Giant 2001

One of my favourite tracks off any GU. Pure understated perfection

Am with Blain here. Disc 2 is just a series of big room prog tracks. Very much Digweed’s attempt at doing what Sasha did on the prior release.

Am I right in thinking that some tracks supposed to be on CD2 were cut as the GU guys didn’t want to pay the global copyright quote, and subsequently changed for other cheaper options?
If so, I wonder what ones were changed. Bet Cass & Slide wasn’t on the original draft, and I bet Heaven Scent wasn’t either (bet he got mate’s rates from JD).

Iirc GU only paid £500 for licencing tracks on the basis they’d ship shit loads by featuring on the releases

                FOR THE FAO OF ZACKSTER.

Maybe not the one you’re looking for, but tons of classics on his Facebook page…

seanc80 he played the first homelands over here and basically thumped out cd2 of this , was absolutely brilliant place was at fever pitch

                  Him on that fucking horse…..again.

Powers Up Pacha sounds like it was night filled with that great NY vocal tribal sound that we all know and love.
